nevermind, cooper scratched with an illness so sanchez is in RF

    • I agree with fish16 about not touching the rotation. I'd think about it in a Westburg/Peraza deal, but that's about it.

I agree with lou that major upgrades are still needed. Kudos that the season has played out exactly how we needed it to so far. We survived that tough first month, we took advantage and more of an easy May and June, but the schedule is picking up again now, and the FO needs to bring in some reinforcements to make a run at the playoffs.

how does a deal for a prospect with no major league track record of success from our current rotation make us better for this year? Maybe you consider that in the offseason with Meyer coming back and eder and fulton there, but how does trading a guy on pace for 180 innings and 206 k's with a 3.75 ERA and 1.19 WHIP for a prospect with almost no mlb experience help us get into the playoffs. these deals make no sense if the goal is to go all in to win this year.

        • padres are getting close to blow it up territory. they just got swept by a pirates team that had lost 11 of 12. They are now 7 under, 11 back in the west and 8 back from the last wild card spot. mets at 8 under too.

          • Complacency kills. Better go 1.000% against Colorado, Detroit, Nationals, and Pirates starting this weekend

            Philly

            Colorado
            Tampa

            • Trading from the best part of your team also kills. No one is arguing against making additions. Literally no one

And that is all I'm saying. A longterm 6+ year of control player at an up the middle position who should be an instant upgrade short and longterm. And it's a package with more guys (Kjerstad/Basallo, Peirera/Sweeney). They'd have to trade for pitching but who cares. Major upgrades are easy to understand.

Should be an instant upgrade based on what?? Neither of those guys have more than 100 major league at bats. The more likely scenario is exactly what you have argued against doing, making moves that make you better more long term and worse the rest of this year. Westburg has been up for less than a week. Peraza is in aaa. I’m fine with those kinds of moves in the offseason, but both of those for luzardo make you worse the rest of this year

                  • Part of me hopes they do nothing so we can see the crying posts August 24th when reality sets in after a Dodgers/Padres west coast banger with the Astros, Yankees, away series in Cincy and Texas, and Phillies right before that, but alas, we don't want that to happen so hopefully they do the right thing and get these guys some real bats.

St. Louis is 13 games under .500. Colorado is 18 games under .500, Sandiego is 7 games under .500, the nationals are 16 games under .500, the mets are 8 games under .500, and the pirates are 4 games under .500.

It is no doubt a harder schedule, but they are a good team. they are 13 games over .500 and have had a top 10 offense and defense for the better part of 2 months. This isnt some shitty team playing way way over their head. they have absolutely had some luck. They have also had a lot of their best players underperform. Sandy has been bad, Jazz has barely played, Segura has been awful, and they are still 13 games over with a run differential that is close to like +50 or +60 over a 2 month stretch. They absolutely need help, but they arent some crazy overachieving team that has no business being this good so far.
