I agree with lou he's probably looking at a 1-year $20 million or 2-year $30 million deal coming his way in Free Agency, barring him being a borderline MVP candidate this year, or falling off a cliff.
    1. Maybe he doesnt, but he does have a year in his career in KC hitting 47 hr's with 117 RBI's and a .922 OPS.
    2. The year he won world series mvp he had a dreadful 300 ab's before getting traded to ATL's lineup and mashing till the end of the year. His overall numbers that year were 27 hr's, 70 RBI, and a .749 OPS with a .223 BA.

Because of the fielding limitations he probably does stick with just a 1-2 year deal, but he is just 31 so if he does keep this up this situation is not comparable to 2021 even with the world series MVP to show for it.

Yes, he is not Schwarber or Castellanos, and how are those deals aging for them right now? Hard to say where he lands, but Joc accepting the $19m tender off a nothing 2021 and awesome 2022. Soler might be a little more interesting than him, but that's about it.

Still, I do think an extension in low 30s for 2 years would make sense and wouldn't be upset. I am with Lee though, assuming they fall out, a trade makes the most sense to get something and reapportion in free agency.

      • Nothing says "get these guys some help" then scoring 2 in the 9th on Josh Hader to sneak out a win on the wild card favorite.

Garrett has a 4.22 ERA and 1.31 WHIP which includes the 11 ER debacle. Which is just incredible. He's been great.

        • I think the Pirates are a team to look at working a trade with. Try to get Jared Triolo(a 3B blocked by Hayes) and Quinn Priester(a SP prospect most feel will end up in the pen as he is a 2 pitch guy but the Marlins need some youth in their aging bullpen).

Unfortunately they likely wouldnt have interest in Soler.

          • great win last night. good to see jean essentially win the game on his own in the 9th. today's game is huge with how much the schedule lightens up the next few weeks. A win today puts us 3 over going into the series vs A's, Royals and White Sox. I said this last year but we cant hang around .500 all year. we will inevitably hit a slow point and fall out of it. Need to take advantage of the schedule lightening up and really start to pile some wins together. After the next 3 series we have a tough road series against Seattle but then another 3 against the nats. These next 15 games need to be at least 10-5. With a win today that would put us 8 games over in the middle to end of june. That would really make it imperative that we are active at the deadline and help this team.

            • braxton garrett is really fucking good. He will never be a top of the rotation guy because he shouldnt face orders 3 times, but every 5th day if you can get 5-6 really quality innings from him it's a huge boost. The fact that his numbers are as good as they are despite Skip leaving him out to dry for 11 runs in the Atlanta game is remarkable. Without that game, here are his numbers in his 9 other starts- 49 IP, 44 hits, 14 ER's, 51 k's, 10 walks, 2.57 ERA, 1.10 WHIP. Legit all star level numbers. he's only finished that 6th inning once, but he's gotten through 5+ in 6 other starts.

Even more evidence that spring means nothing because he was flat out terrible in spring training.

              • gotta love ESPN. I get we have a bad run differential, but we are 2 games over, the cardinals are 7 games under, and they have them right in front of us in the power rankings. same with the phillies who are 5 games under.

Yeah, I ignore most of those lists.

We could win 15 in a row, and they'd put us behind a team that lost 10 in a row.

That's as far as the conversation should go. Extending him would be silly. He ought to be traded this week.
Trading Soler when we are in a Wild Card spot in June is a pretty wild take.

                    • If we get swept by the A’s at home (which we all know is entirely possible) then yes trade Soler. But trading Soler when we are holding a WC spot in June is ridiculous.

                      • trading soler this year is not crazy. Trading him this week is fucking nuts. Evaluate the situation come the end of july. Things will be a lot clearer then. He is going to opt out regardless. By the end of july we will find out whether it makes more sense to just trade him and get a prospect or hold onto him and try to get a playoff spot and just let him walk in the offseason. Making that decision now is dumb.

                        • I think if you decide to not trade him at the deadline an attempt needs to be made to re-sign him. We don't have any offense as is, we can't let the little we have walk. 2 years $30 million, 3 years $39 million, something like that.

You mean that didn't work with Marte?

Yeah he predicted 52 wins for us this year, we're currently in a wild card spot June 1st.
