  • great win, maybe the sky isnt falling after 5 games. 3 in new york coming up without having to face Scherzer and obviously no verlander. Hope we can get 2 of 3 and then move on to philly where we have Sandy, Luzardo, and Cabrera scheduled to go.

Stallings catches the ball that Fortes let go to the wall. Even the thickest of skulls like yours should grasp that.

And ONLY last year matters when talking about baseball players? Is that how this works? Stallings obviously stunk last year.

      How was 2019-2021?

I just want to footnote this, Stallings was a resounding -0.6 UZR defensively last year (FG), and was very good at blocking, average in poptime, and terrible in framing last year. If he is "negative" it is by a slim hair below average negative. Fortes was middle of the pack in framing, very good in poptime, and average in blocking. Fortes had a much better UZR (5).

Big picture, Fortes was certainly better last year defensively, but Stallings is likely to recover to historical rates and be a better defender even if Fortes is looking pretty average (which is great longterm IMO). Maybe Stallings is done hitting so he should be the backup, but 60-70+ starts for Stallings is still more than fine for who these guys are. Stallings was also good second half last year so "SSS."

This is a good combo and fine. How much is Fortes going to hit is the main C question this year, and then does any of Allen, Banfield, or McIntosh turn into next year's backup to save $$$$, and then how does Mack look for some real longterm hope. That's the top 3 catcher question list to me. Stallings isn't top 5 as I'll start busting out R. Hernandez development on top of that, and then who is the 2023 catcher draftee on top of that too.

        • Best thing about the Marlins winning is you know Maddawg won’t show his face around here.

            • Is Fortes better at throwing runners out than stallings? I thought he was statistically better or at least similar last year and anecdotally I seem to think he's better.

fortes threw out 28% of base stealers last year, stallings threw out 18%. Stallings is 0/2 this year, fortes is 1/3. Not sure if that includes todays game or if it has not been updated yet. teams ran a lot with stallings back there last year. they were 61/75 on steals in 103 starts with. stallings. For Fortes it was 25/35 in 48 starts.

JT Realmuto was unbelievable last year looking at the numbers. He threw out 44% of base runners on 68 attempts. How do we get a guy like that behind the plate??

                  • Tomorrows game postponed to Friday due to rain. And that is why they schedule home openers with an off day afterwards

Yea that's it. Because you can't just schedule an off-day on a Monday. Teams definitely don't care about having less F/S/S games. Story checks out.

Not even sure what that means. They schedule an off day after home openers in cities with questionable weather so the fans don’t get fucked after buying one of the most expensive tickets of the year and so the team can keep that revenue and just tell them to come the next day. If you schedule the off day for the end of the series you can’t just push 3 games worth of tickets back a day. You can if there is an off day right after the first game. It’s not that complicated.

here you go. Didn’t even read the article before I posted my last post. It’s pretty obvious why there are off days after home openers. Not sure what your issue is

                          • we were reportedly talking to the cardinals about tyler o'neill over the offseason. Not sure if thats completely dead now given that i would assume pablo was the guy the cardinals probably wanted, but something to look out for as the cardinals have a big cost controlled outfield surplus. It would take a lot of maneuvering of guys if we did that though. Id assume Jazz goes back to second, Arraez to 1st, Cooper and Soler split DH with the other playing a corner outfield position. It would then open up a door to DLC/Sanchez being traded for a reliever. I'd like it, but it seems like something that should have happened in the offseason if it was going to happen. At this point, unless they would take braxton garrett, it doesnt seem to line up anymore. He's coming off a down year, but he is a good CF which would help the outfield defense and move jazz back to his best defensive position. He is only team controlled through next year, so the price would likely not be astronomical, but they are looking to contend this year, so it would take a major league piece. Braxton garrett is really the only piece that would make sense there, and that doesnt seem like enough. Maybe garrett and a prospect would work though.

He would definitely be a major piece to add to the lineup and defense though. He has ridiculous pure power and has stolen 15 bases each of the last 2 years. Good player if they can get him for a price that makes sense. And he's not exactly loved by the manager there. They benched him for lack of effort on a play 2 days ago.

Garrett and a prospect for O'neill. Then DLC/Sanchez for the best righty reliever they can get for that price.

                            C- Fortes
                            1b- Arraez
                            2b- Jazz
                            SS- Bad
                            3b- Segura
                            LF- Soler/Coop
                            CF- O'Neill
                            RF- Garcia
                            DH- Soler/Coop
                            Bench- Berti, Gurriel, DLC/Sanchez, Stallings
                            Sp- same
RP- Puk, Floro, Chargois, Scott, RH acquired in trade, Okert, brazoban, barnes

should have paid him. if i remember he wasnt asking for a crazy price. It was like 5-6 years, 100-120 million at that point. For the best catcher in baseball. Now we have sixto sanchez's detached shoulder, will stewart stinks, and alfaro is long gone. sixto was a top prospect though and we saw he was great when healthy, so i cant really blame the marlins for what they got, just the fact that it got to the point where they had to trade JT to begin with.

Did JT ever make it to the open market though? I thought he re-signed with them before he even hit free agency?

Rehashing again, and with hindsight, but the rebuild should've been done around JT and Yelich.

I was also concerned about Sixto and his injury history at the time.

And no, I think he did make it to the market, but Philly resigned him. And that 5/115 is what he ended up signing.
