i missed that cooper got hurt on saturday with an elbow contusion. the guy just cannot stay healthy. id like to see the numbers he could put up if he plays every day all year but he is just so injury prone

I wish we would of dealt him in the offseason. I wanted Lewin to play 1st and Agular to DH. Lewin is a superior defensive 1b. Also we need to know if he can play with more ABs in the majors.

That to me was a big question in the offseason. How would they handle this? I would have completely understood getting rid of one of aguilar or cooper and then having the remaining one DH with Lewin at 1b. Ultimately given how frequently cooper is injured, that might be the end outcome anyways. At some point Lewin and Burdick are going to need to get ML ab's and I'm not sure how they handle that unless there is an injury.

the fact the marlins gave up connor scott for jacob stallings is annoying. there were any number of catchers they could have signed or traded for that would have 1) helped the offense more and 2) not cost much. He was the CF of the future they are looking for. He's gonna be a really solid major leaguer for a long time. Stallings is great defensively but as I said at the time of the trade, his bat is fucking putrid.

Zach Thompson was whatever. Connor Scott has never been that impressive although he was promoted pretty aggressively. Nicolas likely could have been in the Marlins pen right now.

I didn't mind giving up any of them although I wouldn't have done it for a 32 year old catcher. That same package(along with Alfaro as a stopgap) likely could have gotten Jeffers from Minnesota or Murphy from Oakland. Both are also elite defensive catchers with meh bats like Stallings but 5 and 8 years younger, respectively.

I dont mind Stallings outside of his age. But at the same time I think they overpaid.

big opportunity in this series. anything less than 2 of 3 would be a huge disappointment given we have luzardo, sandy, and pablo going. Super excited to see Luzardo tonight.

jazz with a terrible play and what should have been an easy inning turns into a ton of extra pitches and 2 runs. Pujols hits a soft blooper that has no business being a hit and then jazz with a truly awful throw from 2b. Right after we get 1st and 2nd with 1 out and then swing at the next 2 pitches to end the inning

mitch garver has graded out positively defensively each of the last 3 years according to FanGraphs. and yes, especially with how bad our offense was last year and how likely it is that they move to robot umps for balls and strikes in the next year or 2, I would have gone for the guy who absolutely mashes.
