  • if Jose ramirez is at all available I would be all over him depending on just how huge a haul he would require to get. Only 2 years after this year but he is a legitimate superstar, the next 2 years are 12 million and 14 million so it isn't a ton, they might be rebuilding so a lot of young pitching and some of the lower level guys like Salas might make sense. As long as it is maybe 1 guy like Pablo and then the rest being prospects that might make a shit ton of sense for both sides. Something like Pablo, Fulton, Salas, one of the OF's, and then a super lower level guy like Ian Lewis would be something that could make sense for both sides. His price would obviously be enormous but with just 2 years left it might be the perfect trade partner as opposed to if he had 5 years left where the price might not be worth it. Plus his versatility would help us figure out which prospects pan out and allow us to build a complete team with his ability to play 2b, 3b, and even SS and LF experience.

    C- TBD
    1b- Lewin
    2b- Jazz
    SS- Ramirez
    3b- BA
    LF- Sanchez
    CF-Marte
    RF- Burdick/Conine/Bleday/Misner/Scott
DH-Aguilar for next year then the leftover OF's the following year.

    SP- Sandy/Rogers/Cabrera/Sixto/whoever is left.

While getting Ramirez and Marte would be expensive money and prospect wise, the combo of the 2 would still have us in the lower 3rd of the league payroll wise so in terms of money it's not a ton to ask for if they truly spend on being a real team.

    • getting rojas, dee gordon, and dan haren for heaney, the guy who beat up his teammate Chris hatcher, kike Hernandez, and Austin barnes was the rare loria era trade that we didn't get taken advantage of on. For years I said I didn't believe rojas could all of a sudden just become a really solid hitter and I'm proud to say how wrong I was about that guy. guy has been the heart of this team for a few years now, is cheap, damn good, and versatile. If he can ever become our utility guy playing 3-4 nights a week and coming off the bench the rest of the time when we hopefully compete he will be the ideal role guy and I hope it happens. rojas should be with us for his career. i hope they win with him on the team.

      • 1 year ago yesterday starling marte his a bomb in his first game with us to beat the blue jays late. I dare you to tell me that doesn't feel like 5 years ago.

        • honeslty who gives a fuck at this point but why is sandy leon still up here? he's not even close up there. we've got close to 200 ab's this year, the guy has a sub .500 ops, we suck, and what could it possibly hurt to throw fortes or henry from the brewers for curtiss up there? Not saying its gonna be better but if this is gonna be such a dreadful last 3 months of the year, wtf are we doing with Alfaro AND Leon here in place of a prospect, whether it be another C or another position like Diaz or Monte? We need 3 terrible catchers for what purpose exactly?

its like this team is scared to just see what's down there as opposed to the alternative of guys like sandy leon getting AB's, we've got fucking alfaro in god knows where in the field, joe panik anywhere near an mlb field, and sierra sucking for the 4th straight year. just cut losses at some point and just say fuck it to September which is gonna be miserable anyway and give guys some ab's at the mlb level and see what happens. at worst, monte fights someone else in the club house, who gives a shit? At the least, why is lewin diaz not up here if we're clearly gonna count on him at 1b next year and aguilar at DH?

He's got 20 sb's in 20 attempts in 30 games for Oakland, plus he's hitting .346 with an .861 OPS there as well. Overall for the year he's a ridiculous 44/47 on SB's. Give him 3 years and whatever it takes. They need to spend this offseason whether it be on him or another one of the big bats and then flip pablo for another young top prospect and then we can maybe talk about next year being anything better than this.
After the way Marte has played since he went to Oakland, there is no fucking way the Marlins sign him in the off season. No fucking way.

            • jesus sanchez is gonna be really good. i don't think him or jazz are superstars but 2 really good bats to start to formulate a competent lineup around. I see both of those guys as low to mid .800 OPS guys at their peak and that's definitely a start. now give me 4 more of those type of young guys to watch grow the next few years and spend some money on a big bat in free agency or via trade.

2-2 now with an intentional walk. up to .782 OPS now. Jazz after an injury filled year but a lot of promise at .765 OPS in his first full year. you get a guy like jose ramirez for a huge haul, you spend some fucking money in free agency on 1 big bat, and then you trade some more pitching or OF depth for a C prospect like Campusano or Melendez from Kansas City, and you let burdick, bleday, and conine battle it out by mid year next year for the last OF spot and DH to take over for aguilar after next year and you have a start.

                C- Campusano or Melendez
                1b- Lewin/Aguilar
                2b- JAzz
                SS- Rojas
                3b- Ramirez
                LF- Sanchez
                CF- Marte
                RF- Anderson/Burdick/Conine/Bleday
                DH-Aguilar/Burdick/Conine/Bleday

SP- Sandy/Rogers/Cabrera/Sixto/whoever would be left after trades

It would take selling a ton of the farm to get both campusano/melendez and ramirez, but it would absolutely be worth it and add in the money it would take to get marte on a 3 year deal, and its not an unrealistic amount of money for a team that would be a legitimate world series contender for at least 2 years. That's still most likely well under $100 million for the next 2 years as well before some of the current guys get ready for raises and hard decisions would have to be made

Will it happen? Absolutely not. Is it something that is absolutely possible for an ownership group who wants to spend more than the bare minimum to do what it takes to win? its really not. This offseason is it for this ownership group. Prove you're different. Ive given them a pass for the good job they've done building a top 5 farm system and rebuilding the organization literally in every facet from loria, but it comes to a point where you wont win anything significant without doing anything other than building a phenomenal farm system and investing in the draft and IFA. The last key part has always been to spend on stars when the rebuilding of the farm is complete and they need final pieces. The time is this offseason.

                • the more i watch from luzardo, the more I think, if he isn't traded, that if he figures a few things out he can become an absolutely electric high leverage reliever or potential closer if it doesn't work out in the rotation or the SP depth allows him to be used out of the bullpen. his stuff is pretty ridiculous out of the rotation, if you let him focus on an inning or 2 at a time out of the bullpen and never face guys more than once through the lineup, and he can become lethal. Still super early on him but I can see him becoming the next miller/hand lefty who could potentially not quite figure it out as a starter and then become an electric reliever.

nope I have no problem admitting he's blown any chance of being around next year for any kind of significant role and that with the OF depth he's done and isan should be too. id still probably bring brinson to spring training for at most the 5th OF role. the kid just has no confidence when he's not on fire. the second he cooled down he went from confident and like he was controlling ab's to right back where he was before where its defensive and uncomfortable at bats. I think he will end up having a cameron maybin type career somewhere but he needs to get out of here to somewhere he's not looked at as the guy they got for yelich and the spotlight gets off him. The talent and ability is clearly there, he's just a guy who needs to get on to his next destination ASAP because its just not gonna happen here.

I don't think its crazy to say, however, that some team will get him for nothing, and he will get put in a position where he ends up in a lefty right platoon and puts up a few nice years somewhere. he hits lefties well and he has the talent to be a contributor somewhere, the yelich trade is just too far gone at this point and we have enough other OF options at this point where its best at this point to just move on for both sides sake. This current situation isn't good for either side.

                      • i went back to marlins.com and looked through every transaction in the offseasons since the new ownership took over. spending aside, which I think we all agree this offseason is the final straw where if they don't spend its not gonna work, but the moves other than not spending in FA have been good while the rest of the team has been developing in the minors. It's only the bullpen that has been the area where they have fucked up pretty badly. you go through the list of guys that have left for nothing and it's pretty bad. It's the easiest place to find talent so you can see where their thought process has been, but if you go look back at each transaction, it's pretty brutal the guys that have been given up for nothing and, for the most part, it's really been for no reason.

Wittgren, Jarlin, Vesia they got floro for but still not great given vesia's success and the limited time they gave to him, and boxburger who has had a great year again. Not huge losses individually but collectively, you look at what they are each doing and if you sprinkle in a stud closer that shouldn't cost a ton of money and you see how, if they really wanted to contend next year, the bullpen shouldn't be as wide open as it is.

This offseason needs to be focused on 1 Star free agent addition, 1 top prospect trade addition in the OF, and then whichever upper minors catcher addition they like (I like campusano or Melendez from KC), and then fucking spend major league money on filling out a legitimate bullpen. Together it looks like a lot but for a major league team who has the farm system to deal SP for a few hittters and the low payroll to realistically ask to make a move for some relievers, this team isn't far from contention. Its whether this new (not so new) ownership is willing to do it. If they arent, sell the fucking team at this point. This fanbase, as limited as people make it out to be, deserves more. with the right owner in here who is willing to spend up front here, this team isn't far off because this front office truly has done a great job rebuilding this organization from the bottom up, but finish the job and do the right thing as a major league owner or sell the fucking team and let someone else do it for you. The time has come. there are no excuses anymore and you can no longer argue that we still have to wait for the rest of the organization to develop. We have enough talent in the organization now that, one way or another, there needs to be an overhaul this offseason to go into next year with a REALISTIC plan and expectation to compete.

I'm not pleased with his immature approach at the plate (trying to pull everything) but I'm fine with the defense. He covers lots of ground and makes the plays.
