        • Aguilar’s head not in the game. He should sit for that.

          • That was Sierra’s first rbi of the season. In his 79th game. How is that even possible?

because the team is more afraid to lose him via DFA despite the fact that he brings nothing to the table than they are to let him rot on the bench to pinch run poorly once a week.

              • big week. idk if buxton is the guy they will go after but I think they understand the pitching depth they have and the need for 2-3 good bats, especially in CF and at C. I would go after buxton and give him a big extension (but less than what his market value would be when healthy and see if we can get a legitimate superstar when healthy for relatively cheap) but regardless of who it is I think they mix things up and go after some big bats this week. I would offer buxton 6 years 120 and see if he bites. It's incredibly risky but if he stays healthy that is a legitimate #1 hitter on a great team and I think those are the types of risk you have to take when building a team.

In other news, has anyone heard a single thing about Jesus Sanchez? Is he due back soon ? At this point he had to have actually caught covid and not just had a close contact, right?

Buxton has too much of an injury history for me - he's played over 100 games just once in his 7 years in the majors - back in 2017.

his talent is worth the risk to me. his injuries have been a combination of unlucky (getting hit in the hand the day after coming back from the IL a few weeks ago) or just plain recklessness in CF due to his ridiculous athleticism that i think you can control as he gets older. Im just a fan of taking a big swing on his talent and hoping that the injury history can allow us to lock him up long term at a relative discount. That is the only type of extremely high level talent that we would be able to lock up long term given the ownerships cash constraints. it could be disastrous but it also could allow us to get huge surplus value if he learns how to control his recklessness defensively.

If you look at his injuries a lot of them are stupid shit like running into a wall full speed, which as a general life principal, is stupid. I totally understand the hesitancy but that's a still incredibly young talent that we could lock up long term that could be the high level risk that allows us to build a title contender for a lower payroll.

I think any deal with him, because of the contract extension issue, would be more likely to occur in the offseason.

                    • I wonder if Ketel Marte is another CF they'd be looking at. We heard Mish throw out Buxton and Mullins, but I'd assume they're looking at a bunch of names, and those two may not even be two of the guys they're looking at. We know Miami has a history with Arizona, and Marte's contract status is going to be a lot more palatable for Miami than Buxton.

I get what you're saying - If they decide Buxton is the guy, I'd be more interested in an incentive laden contract with a low base salary with a variety of "easy" to reach incentives - i.e. games played, ABs, etc. as protection from his injury history so that you're not losing as much if he's not playing.

                        • This from NY Post: Alcantara is a top-of-the-rotation workhorse. He will turn 26 in September and will be arbitration eligible for the first time this offseason. Miami made Alcantara a contract extension offer that he recently countered, and now the Marlins must decide if they will respond, a source told The Post. If Miami can sign him long term, great. But if not, would the Dodgers combine, say, elite catching prospect Keibert Ruiz and Gavin Lux to front a trade? Again, Miami should only do it if overwhelmed by the offer.

The other flier I read was a deal to Rays for both Brujan and CF Josh Lowe. I would leap at either opportunity.

                          • The Marlins would be very foolish to trade Alcantara. I’m not saying they won’t do it but it’s an “eternal rebuild” type move.

                            • I wouldn’t trade Sandy because he’s the safest SP they have, but I do think they need to look at their pitching, and what they can get in different moves, and take the deal that makes the most sense. If they can maximize value by moving him, and feel confident enough in the other arms, I don’t think I’d be against it.

                              • People here overrate Alcantra. He isn't even at 8 K/9, his xFIP is close to 4, his FIP is in the mid 3s, and he has one pitch that grades out as "good" and he gives up a lot of hits and BBs. He is a mid to bottom of the rotation starter on a good team.
