He let Cimber hit in the top of the 4th with runners at 2nd & 3rd, nobody out. Predictably, we did not score. The Pirates come up to hit in the bottom of the 4th and Cimber is struggling. Lmao.
This had to be the worst move I've seen from Mattingly. You have a team that is struggling to score runs, you finally get some hits from the bottom of your order and you let Cimber hit and give the Pirates an escape route from the inning. All so you you can try and get 1 extra inning out him. The outcome was predictable and infuriating.

Yes, this was a key point in the game and a dramatic error by Mattingly. Many members of the pen had not thrown for several days. I can't come up with a reasonable excuse for that decision.

They can't stand taking an "L" and moving on...so one reason Brinson is still around. They spent $18 million on Dickerson to basically "do nothing" and made the decision to be cheap & pay Matt Duvall instead of opening up the checkbook just a little....according to Mish, Mr Sherman is not happy at all with when they have spent a little money, the return has been very underwhelming. And don't expect them to go and spend a lot next year or the foreseeable future. The fans were not showing up, then the pandemic...it sounded a lot like to me, that Sherman may force Jeter out and the try to bring in someone else to be the CEO....it sounded as Mr Sherman is getting impatient
The worst thing you can do when you're running a professional sports franchise is to be unwilling to move on from bad decisions, and that's exactly what the Marlins are doing right now. The Brinson stuff is laughable. It will be interesting to see what their stance is on Mattingly. I have always thought he was a terrible in-game manager, but the team has overachieved with him for the most part, so that suggests maybe he's a good locker room manager. They extended him, but you'd think there will have to be a sacrificial lamb soon with how bad things have gotten. For as bad as he is, and I think they'd benefit from a better manager, this season isn't his fault. It's squarely on the personnel side.

Front Office incompetence is finally catching up with them. Failure to add competent backup depth, arrogance in their drafting (drafting 6 pitchers in 2020 when you know you have depth problems at several positions, especially catcher) and signing guys that just didn't work out for them offensively.....and refusing to move on from the Brinson debacle. They have spent about $45 million on players that have been extremely underwhelming. If they didn't have the money to compete they shouldn't have bought the team. They want to be the Rays so badly but they are just barely better than the Pirates & Rockies, who ironically might just kick their ass not only this weekend but the early part of next week. Kim Ng's "revamped bullpen" is just a trainwreck....but as was said on Twitter, because she's a female and her historic position, it will take a Herculean effort to get her fired. Manfred might step in and force the Marlins to keep her. The "optics" won't look woke and good so she's here for at least 3 or 4 more years....but I read on twitter that Sherman might just let Jeter's contract run out and then go after the 2nd guy in the Rays front office

                      • Derek Jeter has written a new book : How to turn your MLB franchise into the most irrelevant franchise in MLB history.

8-game losing streak doesn't even strike the meter on MLB News. If it was almost any other franchise it would at least be a blip on the MLB News radar. Looks a lot like a 90+ game loser franchise yet again. So has Jeter come out to the press lately ? How about Ng ? Do any of the press have the balls to ever ask Donnie why a 40 man spot is STILL being wasted on one of the worst players in MLB history - that is a statistical fact (but Fish16 will still say the numbers don't tell us everything, and he's just right on the cusp of this HUGE breakout, and that I'm being a jackass about it because I'm stupid or don't know baseball or not a sabermetrics nerd so how can I know anything). 4 out of the last 5 years, you give a community 90+ losing game seasons, and you expect there to be local interest & excitement in this franchise? When Chisholm or Rogers or perhaps Bleday want to get paid, it's going to be JT Realmuto & Christian Yelich all over again....desperate trades with mediocre returns & the rest of MLB just rubs their hands and licks their lips when it comes to trading with the Marlins.

Do any of you have the guts to debate me on this ? I won't debate nerd sabermetrics because they're actually irrelevant here. This is about how the franchise is being run off the field. I'm not hopeful anyone will do it, because most here just want to bury their heads in the sand, put their fingers in their ears and sing loudly LALALALA.

                          • I'm glad Isan feels comfortable enough with his MLB job to jog slowly after foul balls he might be able to get to otherwise. At least he'll be able to make up for it with his bat! Seriously fuck this team from Jeter down for continually fielding a lineup with these shit bags when you have Jesus Sanchez rotting in AAA.
