  • As much as I've been begging them to give Cabrera a start, I'm not going to bash the FO for not using, because I literally have 0 information on how he's been doing at Jupiter. Do I know if he's stretched out more than 30-40 innings? No. Do I know if he's feeling 100% now? No. Do I know if he's even having success when he pitches in Jupiter? No. If he's healthy and looking good in Jupiter. Absolutely he should be making this start, but I literally have zero proof one way or another.

Only info we had on Sixto before he came up was Rojas going on Twitter and saying he's throwing gas.

but we do have info on rogers and garrett and it was plain to the eye they werent ready and in garretts case he doesnt have anything close to mlb stuff. cabrera at least is a new arm they havent seen and could steal a game based off nothing but limited looks at him and he actually throws a full 10 MPH more than garrett.

      • You can't completely discount Mattingly's handling of personalities and clubhouse management as a factor for a potential comeback, even if his lineup construction and slow hook on Rogers is partly why they're in a hole to begin with.

Would I prefer a manager who is a quality in-game tactician, willing to experiment and go with probabilities in decisions even if it goes against conventional wisdom? Yes. But MLB is a regressive league. Just having someone who is a good personality manager/clubhouse guy puts the Marlins in the top half of teams, manager-wise. It's as much a condemnation of the league as it is praise for Mattingly's main skill.

I dunno. I agree it's annoying, especially since it's something that could be exploited that doesn't require extensive resources, but feels more like placing outsized importance on an "around the margins" kind of improvement.

        • god alfaro is really just not a good player. im doing everything possible to at the very least look for a platoon guy, ideally look for a replacement.

The FO does have info on Cabrera, and maybe that's info isn't good, who tf knows what's been going on with him. They wouldn't even release what was wrong with him, when he wasn't pitching in Jupiter.

also, if he's good enough to be on the taxi squad he is good enough to at least start the game and give you 2-3 innings of 100 mph heat rather than braxton garret's slop or trevor rogers mlb unreadiness.

                • I think the comparison has been made here before, but Alfaro reminds me of Olivo, which I find strangely comforting since my fandom really started in the 2007 season...a sense of normalcy in these trying times haha

he's got even worse plate discipline. he has a 363/31 K/BB ratio for his career. he is not a good player. Olivo had a 1060/158 K/BB ratio for his career.

All I've seen is arm injury. They brought 12 taxi squad guys. So basically everyone who was on the 40-man. Some of them were brought despite the FO having no intention of using them.

Rogers 6 Ks in a row.

                          • Should be a 3-3 game if not for some shady defense and bad ball/strike calls.

                            • trevor rogers will be a quality major leaguer whether its in the bullpen or as a starter, he just isnt ready but you can see the potential. hopefully we can make the braves pay and reward him for settling us in and keeping us in the game.
