It's not really defending yourself though. It's maintaing what you have admitted to be "excuses" and nothing overly based in merit.

There's nothing wrong with opinion, but when it's based on nothing but inconsistency in evaluation (see: West -v- Volstad) people are going to tire of it quickly.

Either call a problem a problem, or be hopelessly (charmingly?) oblivious to every player's short comings, but don't pick and choose the spots to fawn.

Yep. Coming out with these ridiculous excuses that only pertain to Volstad is well... ridiculous.

If Volstad is working on pitches, then so is West or Hurk. Ricky Nolasco giving up 2 homeruns does not mean the same as Volstad giving up 2 homeruns.

Just like if Hanley strikes out 7 times in 2 games and so does Maybin. No one is worried about Hanley, but they should be a tad worried about the youngster.

Festa basically said this to me the other day, and while I can accept it in the private forums, if we're going to hold the private and public forums to different standards, this is one thing I'd like to see us try to avoid here. It serves no purpose other than to devolve the conversation.

We can't bitch about the quality of conversation here and then condone and accept trolling. Trolling is a surefire way to make sure conversation goes in the shitter.

Except in this instance I think it is almost unequivocally aimed at enhancing the quality of conversation.

I think bringing up the "rain" excuse constantly is not really aimed at improving conversation quality. That's just harping.

I think when we have people unequivocally stating that one member is being trolled, it's probably not to improve conversation quality, especially when a number of the people involved in it rarely post in the Marlins forum.

But then, I happen to think trolling is pretty much always a bad thing (even if I'm guilty of it myself at times), so maybe I'm just overly sensitive.

And really, the only other people I can think of with favorite player(s) is FIP (who gets ragged on when he says something stupid) and Ramp (Who understand the limitations of the players he likes, and therefore does not say stupid things).
Except Willingham, Josh can actually move mountains with the sonic booms his swing generates.

Game is over - we're done here
God would be expecting a first pitch breaking ball in the dirt because humans love to disappoint him.
