They did get the Blue Jays #16 prospect (#15 according to FanGraphs)...a 2nd rounder from 2 years ago for Villar. I wouldn’t call that nearly zero value. It’s a pretty good return for a player they acquired for nothing.

Both are right here. Villlar had value, but he was really frustrating to watch and I honestly thought he was going to be better. He made some terrible decisions on the field.

      • and a player who is a free agent in 30 days. Conine was a potential first rounder just two years ago. I like villar but he was wreckless on the bases. I think he's fine on a rojas type 2-3 year deal for mid level money as a speed threat at the bottom of the order but forcing him to hit leadoff and be an offensive catalyst was asking a bit much for him.

Villar is an example of what being willing to spend moderate amounts of money can do. acquired him for a nothing low level arm and then traded him to the jays for a legit but not top prospect just a month into the year simply because they were willing to spend $10 million on him theoretically if the season went on as planned. So they took the risk, were willing to spend the money, then dumped him, got a prospect, and upgraded on him the same day they traded him. That's really good front office work.

Per source, Jazz Chisholm has been called up and will be active for tonight's game. #Marlins

I would think they are bringing him up to play. If they just wanted a backup option, why not just bring up Alvarez?

He is not currently listed in the lineup tonight though so maybe you are right.

Mattingly says Jazz Chisholm has actually been playing a lot of 2nd base in Jupiter and that’s where the club will play him primarily at the big league level right now.

“Jazz is part of the club...set him up to have success”

I’ve never contributed one single thing of substance to this forum in the 15 years I’ve been a member.

It’s much more fun calling you out on all of your bullshit (like “I guarantee the Marlins won’t get anything substantial for Caleb Smith”.

Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday. It’s Starling/Jazz Day!

                  • I'm using Microsoft Edge everybody. I made it.

Love the deals we made yesterday. We hugely upgraded from Villar, somehow improved our minor league system, and only gave up Caleb Smith. That's a win folks.

Also, I called us acquiring Marte about 3 weeks ago. (who remembers?)

Calling up Jazz, and hearing that he'll play 2B is curious considering the news we heard on Isan yesterday, no?

I think its a temporary thing and if he hits he will stay up but i think they just want to give him a taste of the big leagues and then play everyday at the alternate site when Isan comes back because there wont really be a spot for him in the lineup with Isan at 2b and Rojas at SS

This is a big 2 game series against the jays here. elieser tonight against a career minor leaguer and sixto tomorrow with a good matchup against Ryu

                        • I thought Villar took the stupid baserunning with him. I thought Rojas should've been on third with a triple then he gets picked off.

huge victory. sixto needs to come thru tomorrow. this rotation now gives us such an advantage most nights #pitchingsurplus

                            • It's been a long time since I've been that pumped during a Marlins game, as when Starling hit that homer.

When Elieser went down, I couldn't be the only one thinking of Edward Cabrera. After seeing the success Sixto and Rogers have had there's no reason to believe he couldn't be up doing something similar.

                              • I thought about Cabrera too and reportedly he’s close but I think it will just be urena.
