i keep bringing it up but i feel like it cant get brought up enough- our future rotation is going to be absolutely electric. high end starters at the top of the rotation and deep as well. Sixto, Sandy, Meyer, Lopez, Cabrera, Rogers, Garrett, and then even elieser hernandez has looked really good. We're going to be a contender as soon as next year

That was a fun second game.

Rogers looks like he has a great fastball but some control issues on the secondary pitches. The umpire didn’t help him at all.

It's all about handling pressure/emotions. Rogers has demonstrated extraordinary control in the minors - I believe announcers said just two walks per nine. It was the same with Mejia. When/if they get a handle on the nerves, they should be able to throw strikes at the big league level too. Last season: Rogers 2.2 W and 9.9 K per nine. Six-ton: 1.6 W and 8.1 K per nine. Mejia: 2.4 W and 8.9 K. Edward Cabrera: 2.9 W and 10.8 K.

I was impressed that Rogers was able to work out of the jams he created with the walks. Obviously the umpire was wild all night too, which didn't help, but his ability to get out of the jams was great.

If somehow we can split the next two games we would be in great shape.

Fish, you talk a lot about Lee, but you also make such rash judgments that bother me many times. Last two I can remember is when you said that Castano and Berti should't be in the majors.

1. Castano wasn't great, but he held up fine in the MLB honestly. We asked a pitcher to jump from AA to the MLB, and he managed to have a 4.11 ERA. On the eye test he wasn't so bad too, beside that 0.2 IP game he was doing okay.

2. Berti has been great for the team. He had the 3rd highest FWar last year, and same thing this year. He usually makes the right decisions on hitting, baserunning etc. He's exactly what we need. Can play multiple positions, run, hit etc.

We don't give enough credit for guys coming up and at least holding their own in the majors with all that has been going on. The FO will have many difficult decisions to make when everyone is healthy. Even some bullpen arms have been doing well.

castano shouldnt be in the majors. He has no major league stuff, his average fastball velocity has been 89.4 MPH so far, he hasnt had good control, and his peripherals suggest he has gotten extremely lucky. It's great that the results have been decent so far but that wont hold up so for his sake and the teams sake i hope the normal starters come back ASAP. he has a 6.22 FIP and a 5.72 xFIP also indicating a lot of luck.

As far as berti, last night was awesome and the last few days he has admittedly been really good. id like to be proven wrong but i just dont think guys learn how to be quality major leaguers all of a sudden at age 30 when he;s been a mediocre minor league hitter his entire career. one thing he has shown though is that he is an elite baserunner. not just because of last night. i forgot where i saw it but even the advanced metrics showed him to be a good base runner. i'm happy to be wrong abotu berti because that's best for the marlins i just want to see a much bigger sample size before i crown the guy with a career minor league OPS of .703 in over 3000 ab's this good of a major league hitter.

Overall, I expected an L against DeGrom, but this one stung after coming back like we did. We had the double play there that Vincent dropped, should've been tied into the 9th.

But tonight's game should be protested for both 2nd base being blocked - how's the guy supposed to touch the base if you block it? - and more importantly they gave the Mets a second challenge after they had already lost their first challenge. It wasn't an umpire's discretion case where Rojas went out and pleaded with the umps and they went and talked to each other and then decided to go ahead and review it because it was a bang-bang play they weren't sure about - they immediately reviewed it upon the Mets dugout doing the challenge/headphones motion.

That ninth inning ruling on the stolen base by Villar kind of floored me. After following baseball all my life ... coaching it a bunch ... I assumed a foot on the bag would be regarded as part of the bag itself. If a runner arrived at first base by stepping on the first baseman's foot, it wouldn't effect the call.

Frankly, that over-rule was a consequence of replay rather than a benefit. In the "old" days, an umpire would call a runner safe if he beat the play and wouldn't worry about whether he missed the bag by an inch or overslid. Villar beat that play by a mile and the subsequent change was actually an embarrassment IMO. The point of the game is to arrive at the base before getting tagged.

Beyond that, I'm not sure that an umpire could examine that replay for ten seconds and conclude that not a fiber of that mitten was touching the bag.

Same here. It was just absurd.

Mattingly on the post game interview just said that "the only thing he can do in that situation is use spikes". I never seen a player steal second feet first. Usually them go in head first.

Ya this game hurt because for the second time we managed to claw back and tie a game he started and we couldnt pull it out either way. We expected to lose last night but to get back yet again with him on the mound and then to blow it like that stinks. tonight is huge though. huge opportunity to take 3/4

And to think these micro calls occur in an environment where we routinely see batters called out on pitches that miss the strike zone by half a foot.

the balls and strikes calls have been so unbelievably bad this year. and they are constantly changing ab's, innings, and games. the need for an automated strike zone could not e more clear
