Terrible news: Lou Schwechheimer, majority owner of Marlins Triple-A affiliate the Wichita Wind Surge, passed away from COVID-19 complications. Only 62 years old. He was so passionate about the game and bringing the team to Wichita.

Our condolences to his family and loved ones.

I seriously don't get it. As I watch the LA/Houston game on TV, none of the Dodger players are wearing masks in the dugout and there is no distancing. Isn't that a violation of the most basic protocol?

I agree, for the most part. If we lost relievers I think I'd rather them be replaced by these scabs, but position players and starters go with the young guys and see what they've got now that they've exceeded the cut-off date for service time. Obviously if we need to replace 15 guys there's going to be some scabs, but Chisholm, Sixto, Jesus, Lewin, Harrison at the very least should all be up. Then you have Brinson who would definitely come up. Guys like Northcraft, Vincent and Yamamoto who are already on the roster, you should really only need 5 or 6 of these scab DFA guys.

I don't necessarily agree with that, especially in a situation where there is no minor leagues to go back to.

What happened to the whole 45-day IL with Joyce? (That's for TJ to answer)

Something about miscommunication between team and MLB. Joyce is on the 10 Day Rona IL-like Brinson he can come off anytime

given the different bullpen arms weve claimed and just common sense about how frequently and close together the bullpen guys are you gotta think that the pen has been hit especially hard.

Not really they just need arms. They only have 1 arm on the 40 man(Yamamoto) all the others would have to be DFA when guys get healthy so any arm will do

They will likely call up Yamamoto,RHP Josh Smith,Snider,Alvarez,Monte,Brinson but still need 5-10 guys which is why u see them claiming and signing. This is why MLB postponed games for this week-gives Miami a chance to claim guys off DFA and find healthy FA

Looking at the schedule, I would have to imagine our next games will be against Baltimore since they are the only team with a hole in their schedule next week. I wonder if they will make the Marlins play in Baltimore rather than come back to Miami yet.

They probably put in claims on 3 or 4 guys before yesterday and Hoyt/Lucroy/Humphreys/Folty came on since yesterday-it takes days for DFA to go thru if multiple teams put claims in. We got the #1 Waiver spot but if 2 teams put in claims it can take 7 days

Thats what sounds like will happens especially since Marlins play @NYM and @Buffalo after. Take bus for next week or 2-none of the IL guys can come off until after NYM series anyway

finncial implications of team control are not everything but they should be the main concern. of course you dont know what they are and good chance a few become nothing but you dont get reckless and waste a full year of team control for top 100 prospects for no reason when half of those guys arent even ready anyways just because you want to be impatient and see what you have ASAP.

Especially when its going to be for probably a week or 2 and then they go right back down once guys get healthy again. that is beyond short sighted.

Agree, people being way too dumb on this.....yes could they have been good this year, but chances are they would have been maybe a 3rd place finish & out of the playoffs (27-30 wins at most ?).

Listening to Buster Olney's podcast this morning, it seems A LOT of players & managers around baseball are mad at the Marlins, and if the investigation & rumors prove true about "going out on the town" in Atlanta are true, expect a lot of teams to play the Marlins hard, and to try and pound them.

Will Jeter do any in-house discipline on top of anything Manfred does ?

1 Phillies coach and 1 clubhouse staff member tested positive today. No players for them have tested positive yet. No way of knowing if either positive is the result of the Marlins, but as you’d imagine, the Marlins are taking the brunt of the blame for this in the media. It’d be nice if someone from the organization would defend themselves.

man, for all the talk in the offseason about how good the rest of the division is, they all have some pretty awful holes in their team. the mets bullpen sucks and they are also the mets. the braves rotation isnt that good and their bullpen is also pretty bad. the phillies pitching stinks outside of nola and wheeler. the nats lineup just doesnt have the same punch without rendon and zimmerman, although granted they havent had soto yet.

I just see this division possibly being for the taking with no real favorite.

I agree. I was feeling like we had a real shot at a playoff berth before these 17 players (and counting) got the virus.
