Option MLB/Marlins are talking about is letting vets who didn't make teams 60 man pool sign with Marlins if other team is fine with it however can't trade or do anything else when we DFA them

Also there are 10-15 guys in DFA limbo which Miami is looking at.

They can field a team

15 ML guys
5-10 from minors(Monte/Alvarez/Lavarnway/Vincent/Snider/Smith) Issue is what happens when on 40 man and other guys are healthy
5-10 from DFA guys/vets not on 60 man pool/FA


Marlins really dont wanna blow service time/control for 10 games

There is no reason that the non-roster alternate site players throughout the league can't be treated like NFL practice squads, where any team can sign them at any point of the season. Their current team would get first chance to sign them instead, and if they don't they would be free to sign with any other team as long as they are put on the active roster. Someone like Yonder Alonso (from Miami) with the Braves comes to mind.

Another question...would postponing the next 2 games and then playing on Wednesday, at least clear up the service time issue with calling up players like Harrison?

Mish was just on MLB Network. They asked what is next for the Marlins going forward and he said it's likely they will call up 8 or 9 players from Jupiter, mentioning the names Harrison, Jesus Sanchez, and maybe even Jazz. Obviously not the best circumstances, but I'd actually love to watch those guys play, so...

I think it would need to be after Wednesday so if it’s for Wednesday’s game we get fucked unless they send them down once guys get healthy

Marlins had 0 players positive when they left Miami. Somehow the MLBs plan had them getting on FOUR different flight in EIGHT days.

I don't know if the service time is an issue if they don't play until Wednesday. Harrison and possibly Sanchez and Jazz were likely to be up at some point this season anyway. It would be different if we were talking about Bleday, Meyer, Devers, etc.

fair point, and the only one who wouldnt really go down once people are healthy are harrison and possibly sixto. we would have to see the full list of guys who have covid and find out their replacements before we get into all that but this really seems incredibly stupid and short sighted. MLB is just going to make all the teams play without any change to their protocol or testing despite the fact that it took just 3 games for a team to have 14 fucking guys test positive for COVID? That is one of the dumbest things ive ever heard and it shows a flagrant lack of care for their players possible health ramifications. Death isnt the only potential downside to COVID, there are plenty of people who have suffered long term lung issues and other covid related issues. Hell eduardo rodriguez of the sox has a god damn heart issue now. WTF is Manfred doing

I doubt it would be Sixto btw. Marlins still have neidert in the mlb pen along with Yamamoto. Edward Cabrera isnt an option either apparently as he has been dealing with a minor arm injury and hasnt thrown in a week.

with the secrecy that they generally keep these positive covid tests under i wonder if we will find out who exactly tested positive more than an hour before the next game or does the lineup and future starters for the next week come out and we just find out who has it from that. gotta think that someone like mish or heyman and definitely not frisaro will report it.

I think if we lose another starter, (Alcantara, Smith, Lopez) or another catcher we're in big trouble. If it's just relievers and position players, maybe we could get by for 2 weeks.
