Miami Marlins to Change Logo for 2019

my distaste for the blue one might be because the one in the picture doesnt have the patch on the arm and maybe the actual jerseys the players wear will have something like that like the other jerseys do. Just seems too plain without a little more but again, its a uniform, not the end of the world.

I like the simplicity of the White and Grey jerseys. I feel something is missing on the blue, but maybe the color palette comes together with some pants and a black hat. I saw a picture of Brinson in one with the hat and it looks pretty good. The black jersey and hat feels like it needs some silver/white lines to contrast with the colors. I think that's the worse one, but some kind of tweak could easily fix it. The all black/white hat is atrocious.

Ya, the blue one is the weirdest to me. I think people should also hold off judgment until they see what the actual game day jerseys will look like. IDK why but that blue one strikes me as a BP only type of jersey that the fans never actually really see.

One thing that im struck by first and foremost is a feeling that this logo/colors wont translate as well to non-jersey fan merchandise. I have to do more looking into it today, but it just doesnt strike me as a logo or color scheme that will have me buying t-shirts (as i will almost never buy any sports jersey other than basketball jerseys). anyone seen how the logo looks on normal merchandise?

Yeah, I agree it's an odd omission on the blue ones to not have a sleeve patch - the real ones don't have it either according to the pictures I saw.

Black hat sucks, the black on black does not look good. Would have liked a blue hat but I felt the same way about the old set.

White jersey is super bland, there should be more piping. Blue jersey color is amazing, but something about the size and placement of the logo looks like rec league softball. Should have had MARLINS on the blue jersey.

Gray jersey is my favorite one.

Black just doesnt work. Like the concept, but similar to the hat, the colors aren’t bold enough for black on black to work.

I agree about them being bland - they need a number on the front or piping or something.

White jerseys look great but I believe you don’t get the awesome arm patch unless you choke up the big money for an Authentic one.

Also amazing that the limited time 30% off online sale for new merchandise was a hoax.

Yeah, this was incredibly pathetic. I was excited about it and went to apply the discount only to see it didn't apply to them. It's like WTF? Now, that may not have been a Marlins thing (may've been an MLB shop thing), but still it doesn't look good.

And yeah, you have to get the authentic one to get the sleeve patch, which is really disappointing. If/when I get one, I'm thinking of having a patch put on. Unfortunately there's no blue patch at all.

I'm hoping/guessing a blue hat will eventually be available from somewhere - whether it be on the MLB shop or Lids - but not used in games.

They all look pretty boring to me on first glance. It’s a shame because I like the color scheme. The black on black doesn’t work, the white ones have nothing going on, and the blue just looks weird. It’s like they got caught between doing something new and different with the colors, and something more traditional with the design, and just ended up with something that doesn’t really work.

So I just listened to the podcast with Elisa Padilla, the senior VP of marketing and community relations. Here are a few things she said:

-worked with MLB

-MLB did a color study on how to contemporize the look and feel of the team

-MLB showed Marlins color concepts and they chose these

-"Calle ocho en esquina caliente - "warm colors" Blue - very Miami, - red - hot red, colors are vibrant on the black

-"electric energy"

-new Marlin is "more athletic and powerful"

-M script inspired by Latin American design and letters

-"we live in these colors every day" in Miami

-Font - came from research MLB did before presenting concepts

-Artwork - wanted to be in every part of the community, artists didn't see the logo beforehand

-Uniforms move us from a performance brand to a lifestyle brand that they hope people will think is "so cool, you'll wear it out anyway"

-There's an announcement monday at Tropical park - part of a big initiative for the team........given she's the president of marketing and community relations, I think it's at the park I mentioned as a sort of community outreach, and nothing to do with Marlins Park - otherwise they'd have removed the sign altogether if something were close.

According to what she said, it sounds like MLB did all the work and the Marlins just chose from a few concepts.

She mentioned they showed a home, road, alternate, and BP jersey, which presumably is the blue one, which is really disappointing if so.

my guess is we're stuck with these for 2 or 3 years and then they'll tweak them

it's just bizarre that one of the few things this FO did upon assuming control was change the inside of the old logo from black to white, and then they decided to go with black interior again on the new logo

I also think one of the things that makes it generic looking is the lack of marlin on the script. If there were a marlin jumping over the M in Miami on the jersey I'd feel better about it
