Yeah, I'm confused. It seems like they're within their rights to up the price of the seats, so maybe these higher up seats are their way of maintaining the price level, but both of you guys described it as their seats were moved, which doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah, presumably if that were the case, they'd say "we're increasing ticket prices next year, your current seats will be $X next year, or if you want to maintain your current price level, these seats in section X are available."

I'm not saying the team wouldn't do something like that, but I feel like there's something missing in these stories.

Perhaps the real story is what I said, and they just left out the part about prices increasing and being moved to alternative seats in relaying the story about moving seats.

Asked for more information. Got this answer: "They're reducing the capacity of their premium seats and raising the price to make it more exclusive"

He can keep his same seats, but not the diamond club access he previously had (the included premium dining, etc)

So basically, he'd like to keep his same seats and same access and the Marlins are telling him it isn't an option at any price

Welp, that sounds like a shitty thing to do to the few loyal fans you have left.

So in other words, they don't want to spend as much on the included perks (dining, etc.), so they're going to offer fewer seats with the perks and charge more for the ones that do have it?

Or they plan to tie these seats to corporate sponsorship packages.

The demand for Marlins tickets must be at an all time high so I can see why they’d want to make the seats right behind home plate more exclusive.

Apparently they’re moving all the seats behind home plate (his were on the 1B line) which in effect reduces the amount of seats available. He could pay to keep his seats with no extra benefits, or he could pay a lot more for the seats behind home plate with the benefits he already enjoyed. Instead he’s cancelling his season tickets. Good move.

And that is what Lisette said her father is doing too....these people may even be more stupid than Loria.

Maybe I should say more GREEDY than Loria

Moving as in installing new ones/rearranging the seating setup? Interesting.

Oh....perhaps they're putting the bigger fancier seats further down the lines? Sounds like that might be it.

What they need to do is take out some of the seats in the upper deck outfield and make it into a bar area like the clevelander but where its actually open to the stadium and you can see the game. like they have in Denver or Atlanta.

I remember we discussed this idea a while back - don't know if the outfield is the place to do it - as I pointed out before, there's that spot on the 3rd baseline in the upper deck between the supercolumns that's already "by itself" - it could just be removed completely to install the area you're talking about.

true, i just feel like they need something to attract younger fans who might not like baseball and when i went to a game last year in atlanta and visited that area it seemed like a perfect attraction. And lets be honest, baseball stadiums, especially stadiums like the marlins, dont need 37000 seats or however many we have. I much prefer fewer seats and more entertainment areas if we're gonna have 81 games a year where most games wont come close to being sold out.

Also, and ive said this before so maybe its just me, but the clevelander sucks. You cant see the game and everything is ridiculously overpriced. They should put one of those clear hockey style boards instead of the chain link fence.

I really think the outfield is a good area though for that bar because those seats are almost never used and it would follow the successful path of what teams like the Braves and Rockies have done. All in all, I just think that the team needs to consider more attractions to attract non baseball fans. Even if you do something like a reduced price standing room only for a bar in the right field upper deck, youre getting increased attendance from people who wouldnt normally go to games and then increased concession/alcohol revenue. I think the ownership will implement ideas like that after a year or 2 of getting familiar with the fanbase/situation and determining what the best move is.

I really thought they were going to take a page out of the A's playbook and do the subscription thing (you buy your plan with guaranteed specific seats for X # of games that you choose, but you get access to first come first serve seating in other sections at ALL remaining games.

I got an email yesterday in which they said to sign up for Marlins "membership" , and I thought it was just this program, only to read further and realize it's just season ticket plans with a different name.
