This is the current Jeter/Sherman game plan:

-We are completely broke and we will do whatever it takes to be less broke by Opening Day.

because the return they get is still newsworthy and they should report all sides to the trade.

Yeah that's obviously the biggest problem in this deal. Marlins never hid how much they wanted to trade Stanton's contract. Once Stanton made it clear he wanted a big market team, it forced the team's hand.

This whole situation has been handled less than ideal. Now the team can move forward and likely purge other parts of the team. Restart and rebuild again. Hopefully it is actually done right this time (INVEST IN SCOUTING!!!!!!)

ya, this is an underwhelming return but it gets rid of all the money. The investing in scouting thing is the most important thing this team needs to do because without it all of this is worthless.

Damn Guzman looks really good though. Yankees number 9 prospect and has an 80 rated fastball according to MLB pipeline.

BA had Devers as a Top 20 GCL Prospect. Very young(just turned 18)

Oh boy...that prospect haul is definitely something.

Rookie ball and low A guy. Devers is only 18 and struggled in his short time there. Guzman is going to be 22 years old by the time he starts A ball for the first time ever.

It's kind of laughable the return.

                    • Guzman was one of the guys the Yankees got for McCann last year.

                        #9 Prospect in NYY system

                        MLB Scouting Report

                        Scouting grades: Fastball: 80 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 45 | Overall: 50
Signed out of the Dominican Republic by the Astros in 2014, Guzman compiled a 4.63 ERA in Rookie ball during his first two years as a pro. He can light up radar guns like few other pitches can, however. That captivated the Yankees enough to acquire him along with fellow right-hander Albert Abreu when they traded Brian McCann to Houston in November.

With an extremely fast arm and without an excessive amount of effort in his delivery, Guzman can work with a 97-103 mph fastball as a starter. The downside is that he sometimes doesn't know where his heater is going, especially when he crosses into triple digits. He also throws a power slider that lacks consistency and a changeup in its nascent stages.

Though Guzman's control and command require more refinement, they have improved significantly since he focused on his mechanics during extended spring training this year. That will give him a better chance of remaining a starter, and he'll be a potential closer if he winds up in the bullpen.

                        • I mean in five years either of these guys could be stars and we'll laugh at this thread...but in the moment they are just as big of question marks as anybody you'd regularly pick in the 2nd or 3rd round of the MLB Draft.

We essentially traded the MVP of the league for a contract soon to be traded elsewhere and two prospects we could've potentially acquired for far, far less in years past. I feel as if the team got better returns in the trades they made of players during the deadline last season. It's a bit bizarre.

Weren't you pretty high on the Giants trade?

This is better than the Giants deal all things considered.

                            • Devers seems like the type of guy Denbo just knows very well and sold the team on. guzman seems like a legit prospect, albeit he's a little old, but still 80 grade fastball. Let's see what we can get for Castro to really judge this trade. But we also have no money owed to Stanton, so that seems like a win.

I liked that Giants trade if we were able to get all 4 of the guys rumored.

So we're almost at the point where the Marlins value Stanton with his current contract close to what the Astros/Yankees value Brian McCann at.

This is getting better and better.
