    Bour vs righties
    JT vs lefties
    ? vs lefties

Ellis is a better catcher than JT(Catcher meaning call a game, frame pitches) so we will be seeing him more than u think

We need a guy who can play 1B/Corner OF and hit lefties. They still are floating DD name to teams but no talks

Guess 17 million for a guy who can close 50 games is worth more than 10 million+ for a guy who pitches 1 time every 5 games and may go 5 innings

If we don't trade him which I doubt we will that guy is Dietrich.

DD can't hit lefties if he could we would have no need for a bat

Point is he's going to get a chance if we don't trade him. We aren't gonna make him a fifth OF and utility after what he did last year.

Okay but who is gonna get you to that closer? The point is we have many late relief options. We don't have starters. Yet we are throwing $80 mil at a closer. It's literally insanity.

Not to say we won't sign a cheap lefty mashing option as Erick eluded to. Just saying DD will play a lot this year.

          • Marlins, Dodgers, Nationals Vying For Kenley Jansen

By Charlie Wilmoth | December 8, 2016 at 7:50am CDT

THURSDAY, 7:50am: Rival executives don’t expect the Dodgers to match the Marlins’ offer, per Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times (Twitter link).

7:15am: The Nationals are now “making a push” for Jansen, reports FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal (Twitter links). However, the Nats are “uncomfortable” with the financial commitment it would take to land him, tweets Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post. The club has previously used deferrals as a way to help sign big-money players like Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg, but that’s unlikely to work this time, per Rosenthal.

So the Marlins have the highest offer but no one wants to come down here rep is doing in Jeff this time ...

Hopefully Dee Don and AJ had a solid relationship and can help recruit a bit

Sure Jansen is a fine closer. But again who gets the game to him at the back of the rotation? Right now it's Urena, Nicolino or Jake Esch if we keep Phelps in the pen. On top of Bolquez who we should've had Fister ahead of

And Fister is an awesome bounce back candidate who got beat up a bit in Houston a hitter paradise. Dude would be good here.

Fister stinks and none of those 3 guys are going to be in the rotation.

Explain to me how you think Fister is so bad. I really hope you don't think he's worse than Volquez

Ok, who is? They want Phelps in the pen and for good reason. Castillo isn't ready yet. There's no one else in FA. So who is it?

Conley, Chen, Volquez, Koehler, Locke will be the rotation.

Locke. The guy they signed yesterday that has been better than Fister for 2 years now and cost less than half of what Fister would.

Forgot about that admittedly been too wrapped up in thos Jansen thing. Benedict could fix Locke who he came up with and he could be decent back end talent. But I think the pen is more likely for Locke. And I disagree. I think Fister could easily post another sub 4 ERA in the right situation this year.

Also Locke had higher ERA and WHIP in both 15 and 16.

                          • The way I see it, Jansen is not going to put us over the top. What will put us over the top is Stanton-Yelich-Ozuna turning into the most productive OF in the game, which I think many people thought they could be. That's your best chance in increasing run production, there's no move we could make that would make that huge of a difference, sure a lefty-masher needs to be acquired, but in the end that guy can only do so much. We're spinning our wheels with a lot of these names out there at SP. There are some guys that would be slight upgrades over what we have, but it's just that, a slight upgrade. We could spend $150 million on the starters that are out there and still have a below average rotation. Jansen provides the most value upgrade over the Hunter Cervenka's, Fernando Rodney's, Mike Dunn's and Jose Urena's of the world, whose roster spot he would be taking, but more importantly and what he provides over names like Uehara and Ziegler, is he gives us a trade piece if things don't completely come together for us. After the last couple of postseasons you can bet your ass teams are going to be willing to pay for a premier closer, which is what Jansen is, and this huge contract that we might pay him won't look so huge. He provides value in more ways than one, yeah it sucks to lose that draft pick, but you're lying to yourself if you don't think we'd be able to get more for him during trade deadline time if we make him available.

We should have publically expressed interest or at least expressed it to his agent if we were willing to spend this kind of money on something we need a lot less than a starter.
That's partially correct.....because Hellickson isn't worth $17.2M a year. He/his agent took the QO because they found that teams weren't willing to sacrifice a draft pick to sign Hellickson...he's just not worth it.

Same reason u havent heard much about Fister or Hammel. They want another SP just not at 10+million a year
Buchholz is making $13.5M this year, so presumably either 1) we won't see anyone signed over that value/year, and/or 2) they just don't value Buchholz at that price.

It's being reported that the Nationals are now looking at David Robertson of the White Sox (why he wasn't included in the Eaton deal, nobody knows).
