No, we're spending $0 on Haren. If we trade him and pay his salary, we're losing $7.5m.

Actually, I'm looking at that wrong.

    Disregard.

We're paying Salty how much to have Solano as a back up and watch Realmuto struggle as a rookie?

Shopping Haren should be a no brainer right now. His value is basically guaranteed to be at it's highest point as it ever will be as a Marlin.

Realmuto is struggling? He calls a great game. Is a plus defender and has hit reasonably well. Apparently you enjoyed Salty throwing the ball down the 1b line and striking out with the basesloaded?

I enjoyed being able to expect a .700+ OPS against righties instead of a .421 OPS against them.

            he's hitting .213/.238/.320 and .180/.175/.246 against righties

pitching staff has a 3.54 era when he catches and a 4.47era when he doesn't

              2014 stats
              Salty 3.59 era .696 OPS
              Mathis 3.97 era .721 OPS
              Realmuto 5.28 era .895 OPS

I've never once heard Mathis was a bad catcher but overall the staff performed better with Salty last year. Oh and he can at least hit some pitchers unlike Mathis.
Realmuto 11.1 innings less last year than salty had this year. I listed his line for completeness and to show you how awful the sample size you're judging Salty this year on is.

Also it's not that I'm anti-Realmuto. I think he has a bright future but the FO put him in a horrible position and it was to keep Solano as his back up in the process of flushing $13 million down the drain while still crying poor.

I just read through the thread, and I mostly agree with Jay on Realmuto, Salty, and Haren.

Haren's average fastball is 86 this season and he's struggling with homers, even at Marlins Park. Wait till his BABIP regresses to the mean. That's when he's going to implode.

In what world is Realmuto not struggling? Of course he's struggling.

I would guess that when Alvarez returns, Masset gets DFA and then Phelps returns to the bullpen. Then when Jose returns, Hand gets DFA and Koehler gets moved to the bullpen. A lot can happen between now and then, but that's my current assumption.

Phelps has been our best pitcher since joining the rotation, I don't see how he gets the boot out of the rotation.

realmuto rates out as a worse pitch-framer than Saltamacchia

Hand gets claimed guaranteed; better off sending down dyson or koehler until we can trade Hand for a minor league reliever with options. Masset is filler; I don't understand why he's on the team to begin with.

Koehler is going to get crushed tonight. Facing the best offense with a bunch of lefties and he has allowed left handed batters to OPS over 1.000 this year. I don't think he's going to hold his spot in the rotation at this point.

Didn't realize how well Phelps was doing. So you remove Koehler from the rotation when Alvarez returns and DFA Masset. Then who do you bump for Jose?

                                Haren.

I posted in the Koehler thread about this but I'm interested in his sinker right now.
