Every time somebody wants to talk about great chemistry, fuck the chemistry in the clubhouse. I'm interested in winning games, period. I don't know who came up with it, but the worst word ever used now is chemistry. That's something you take in school. That's a class you take. If he gets people out, he'll be fun in the clubhouse. If we win games, I'll be fun in the clubhouse. If we don't, I won't be fun in the clubhouse, either. He's a wonderful, wonderful person with a great personality. We've got a bunch of them."

I think he wasn't that worried about it.

Uggla did not start it with the reporters. Hanley did. He was talking with with a reporter, complaining that he's not "happy with the team," and painting himself as a martyr amidst a bunch of Judases. Meanwhile, he's saying this to a reporter with Uggla sitting ten feet away. Clearly Hanley is talking about Uggla, but he wanted to hide behind a microphone to do it. Hanley's using the media as a mouthpiece to criticize his teammates, and in sports that's the biggest violation of the clubhouse ethos.

I think Uggla is way more justified in defending himself and his teammates from being publicly maligned, than Hanley is in going to the media in the first place.

That being said, I don't think either one is acting appropriately in the situation. I thing both are wrong, but Hanley is "more wrong." The media should not be brought into this sort of dispute.

I think both are equally wrong. But I don't want Hanley playing if he thinks he's hurt. That could be just as bad, if he's overcompensating in anyway he could really hurt himself, or hurt the team.

I think Uggla sounds worse because he's obviously just jealous, and nobody likes that. but Hanley shouldn't be complaining to the media.

Probably just a lot of frustration on both sides. Uggla is pissed because Hanley is super rich and Uggla is never going to get a contract worthy of his performance in the first half of last year and his fate after this season is uncertain. Hanley is probably somewhat frustrated that he's played his ass off this year but tit mice like Bonifacio are causing the team to miss the playoffs again. It's the end of the season and the playoffs have basically slipped away so I'm sure there's just an overflow of frustration around the clubhouse. Meanwhile we have a manager whose just like "Ummm... guys, I really think you should be nice and sparkly, please."

Uggla absolutely started the confrontation with the reporters. If he'd had kept his mouth shut until they were behind closed doors, nothing would have happened. Hanley may be wrong in complaining to the media, but Uggla is the one who escalated the situation unnecessarily. I'm not saying Hanley's not at fault, but Uggla is the reason for the escalation.

Not at all. He is a top 5 player in all of baseball, I don't care how many fights he gets into with teammates. Does not change the win-loss record now or in the future.

I say this blows over. they will kiss and make up, and it will be fine. Uggla is gone soon any way.
I wouldn't be caught dead with a necrophiliac!

I agree that Uggla escalated the situation. But by definition, if he escalated it, that means that someone else would have had to start the situation in order for it to be made more serious. :D

EDIT: But seriously, Hanley STARTED the conversation with the reporter about his teammates. That means he STARTED it. Uggla escalated it. Do your really not see the distinction?

That's what I was gon say. Hanley then started a situation that didnt have to exists, so people just choose who to blame based on who they want to blame or who they enjoy more because who says starting a situation isnt worse than escalating a situation that someone started that never needed to be started?

Isn't the first time Hanley has been outspoken with the media so no surprise there.
