Teams can have players that dislike each other and still win

This team just isn't good enough to win

Why didn't Leyland get blamed for having a team that didnt get along in 97?

Because Leyland made sure they didn't really hate each other, they just fought with him (Brown, Leiter) and the media (Bonilla, Sheff).

Fredi just lets them do what they want to do.

Hanley's a diva. Does it make him any less of a player? Absolutely not. But in my opinion, he's absurdly talented, he wants other people to know he's absurdly talented, and he wants other people to show him that they know he's absurdly talented. Take his walk up song as a for-instance. "Superstar" by Lupe Fiasco: "If you are what you say you are, a superstar, then have no fear, the crowd is here, and the lights are on and they want a show." And then it goes on to say the word "superstar" about a million times.

Uggla is a completely different type of player. (A) He's not as good, but let's forget that. (B) He wasn't an uber prospect that everyone has been jerking off to since scouts first laid eyes on him. He had to take a lot of knocks to get where he is, whereas Hanley might as well have been escorted onto a big league lineup. I don't doubt that there's an element of resentment for Hanley on the part of Uggla. Uggla's arguably the second best player at his position in the league, but he doesn't get a contract. Hanley does. And not only does Hanley get a contract from a team that's more miserly than Scrooge McDuck, a clear sign that people think you're awesome, but he also continually wants to be reassured that people know how good he is.

My guess is that Uggla just finds it irksome. And when things aren't going well for the team, little irksome things become a welcome distraction from under performing.

I dont know how true that is.

It may be true, but I have no way of knowing. Boog has said a lot of players on that team disliked each other. It just doesn't matter when the team wins and it won't necessarily stop a team from winning.

Miggy being fat was nothing, we used it as an excuse to trade him.

I'm not saying that we're going to trade Hanley, but on a team that looks for any damn good reason to not pay a player, this sure as shit is troubling.

As much of a pessimist as I can be when it comes to this team's intentions, I don't think that they'd use this as an excuse to bail on Hanley.
                    --------------------
This is the shit that makes Hanley a diva. Complaining to the media about his teammates. "Media, my teammates don't respect me. They make fun of me when I come out of the game. They don't protect me when I get hit by another team's pitcher. Wah wah wah."

Maybe that's not the best way to build relationships with your teammates, Hanley.

By the way, the man that looks better and better as the season goes on is John Baker. I've had a man crush on him for a while, but if we had to vote a captain, Baker sure as hell would be the guy.

Agreed. He's a hard worker, extremely bright, and he seems to have a very disarming sense of humor.

In case anyone doesn't want to go find it...

Each sitting at his locker about 10 feet apart, Ramirez and Uggla openly argued in the clubhouse about why Ramirez really exited from Tuesday's rain-delayed game in the fifth inning. Ramirez departed with cramping in his left hamstring, and he didn't appreciate the reaction he got from Uggla and others.

"A couple of the guys did like this when I came out," said Ramirez, throwing his arms up in the air. "I'm not happy with the team."

Overhearing Ramirez, Uggla chimed in: "I was one of them."

Addressing the reporter, Ramirez answered: "You got it. Showed me up."

From that point, Ramirez and Uggla continued exchanging barbs. The altercation never escalated beyond the verbal back-and-forth, but they were shouting by the time manager Fredi Gonzalez emerged and politely asked the three reporters present to vacate the clubhouse about three minutes after the argument began.

Earlier in the afternoon, Ramirez told the media he was playing despite his hamstring feeling 10 percent healthy. He alluded to his teammates' reaction when he exited Tuesday night, but did not offer further details until questioned again later.

"I had no idea,'' catcher John Baker said. "I hope he feels better and plays. He's our best player. It's something that will be handled within the team. We're a big family. I guess he's upset. Families get in arguments.

"It's a long season, you get beat up. He's been hit by pitches, he's been in the lineup every single day. He's been battling for us through successes and struggles. I don't question any of his toughness or anything. Maybe what you hear is more frustration on how we been playing lately.''

Ramirez and Uggla made it clear that was not the case. Ramirez was in the Marlins' initial starting lineup, but was scratched presumably after Gonzalez learned the truth about how he was feeling.

"You're playing today?" Uggla told Ramirez.

To which Ramirez responded: "After you showed me up I have to play today."

                          Uggla: "Really?"

Ramirez: "Yeah, I have too. I told Fredi exactly the same."

Uggla: "You should have never came out."

                          Ramirez: "Why not?"

Uggla: "If you play today, you should have played the rest of the game [Tuesday]. It wasn't a big game? You don't want to win?"

Ramirez: "Every day is a big game."

Uggla: "You don't want to win?"

Ramirez went on to tell Uggla he felt hurt over teammates showing him up and added, "I don't show nobody up on the field. I never did."

"You have before," said Uggla, not pointing to a specific example in spite of Ramirez's request to do so. "I've seen you."

Asked if he's had a chance to speak privately with any teammates about the matter, Ramirez responded no. Uggla then reignited the exchange, suggesting Ramirez, who is hitless in his last 14 at-bats and 1 for his last 16 with runners in scoring position, was sitting on his National League leading .355 average.

Ramirez countered by saying he's already got a long-term deal, so he doesn't need to maintain his stats for arbitration purposes.

"If you really wanted to win you would have never come out of the game," Uggla said. "Stand pat."

Ramirez: "Yeah, I'm 0 for 14. They think that's why. I'm still hitting .355. It's unbelievable. And arbitration, I've got arbitration next year so I have to sit on my numbers."

Uggla: "Yeah, you got your $70 million, so f------ win. What the f--- you have to come out of the game for?"

"I don't show nobody up on the field. You showed me up on the field! I never do that to nobody," Ramirez said, shouting now.

That's when Gonzalez intervened and asked the media to leave.

They're both being douches. That's the type of shit that should be addressed behind closed doors. If Uggla and others had a problem with it, call a damn team meeting or something. Don't pick fights when the media's around. That's how shit like this gets blown out of proportion. And Hanley's being an asshole for bringing up his contract in the discussion, too. He's like the fuckhead at a party who gets drunk and talks about how much money he makes and why he's better than everyone else as a result.

I thought Wes Helms was brought in for veteran leadership or whatever. Where the fuck is he in all this? Or any of the "veterans"?

                              Oh, and Bake's the man.
