Unless we have three mystery starters in the wings plus JJ I don't see how it is possible.

Conceivably the team could use RVH and Badenhop as starters and recall Volstad to get some innings in. Hell, if Miller's healthy he could start like 3-4 games, too. That would give them the option of JJ, Nolasco, West, Miller, Anibal, Volstad, RVH, and Badenhop as starters throughout the month of September and limiting everyone's innings accordingly.

The team could rely on guys who don't have as much mileage on their arms this year (Badenhop, Anibal, Miller, RVH) more heavily down the stretch if/when they're officially eliminated from contention, and have the guys who've thrown more (JJ, Nolasco, West - only because of West's innings increase) skip a start here and there, or just put them on a pitch count to the organization's liking.

It's not a good idea if they're still "playing to win," mostly because of the likely unfavorable results, but if the team wants to protect arms it's one way to approach the problem.

I hope Maybin shows up like he did last September, that would spark our asses right out of our seats and with 4 games out, maybe he'll provide some excitement for us and give this team the lift they need

He would have to play for that to happen

Yeah, and that's hard as much as this FO loves Hermida. Thome just got traded from the looks of it btw

Here is it what I would try:

                CF Maybin
                2B Coghlan
                3B Uggla

If Uggla is somewhat serviceable at 3B, his potential offseason suitors expands and his value is increased. If he fails, no harm no foul, we still have an elite 2B to deal at the end of the year.

I'm usually very optimistic about the Marlins playoff chances (I know it's not possible to see my posts from the past 2 years but take my word for it).

We just lost 2 of 3 from the Padres. Tonight, we lost convincingly with our #1 starter on the mound. We still don't have Nick Johnson back and our starting pitching is in shambles.

This is who the Rockies play in their next 13 games:

                      Mets

                      D'Backs

                      Reds

                      Padres

That's really going to help them dig themselves out of the rut they've been in.

San Fran has these 2 guys named Lincecum and Cain.

I really hate being a Debbie Downer but I think it's painfully obvious that COL, SFO and ATL are all pound for pound better teams than FLA is right now.

Would like to see Bonifacio and Coghlan get the lion's share of the 2B time in order to get a better read on how each would be defensively (small sample size, of course).

Would also be cool if the team would play Gaby at 3B for the same reason, but that's asking way too much.

Also, I think if we are going to start resting starters, they be against teams that are out of it. I don't want to see two NL East teams and the playoffs and we 'owe' it to SF and COL.
Fuck them. We need to protect our starters and try out our kids for spots. What is it, 31 games left? I want Johnson (Up 50+ innings), Nolasco (severely abused 2008 and enormous stress innings in 2009), West (currently 40 IP over 2008 totals), Meyer (been terrible since ASB), and Volstad (just for the hell of it) shut down within 2 weeks.

If we have to patchwork Anibal, RVH, A. Miller, Badenhop, Ch. Martinez, G. Taylor, and whoever else, so be it. They need the innings anyways to see if they can be useful next year.

Likewise, the starting lineup the last 2 weeks should be "pick three veterans" from Hanley, Cantu, Ross, N. Johnson, Uggla, and Baker, and then 5 kids from Maybin, Coghlan, Bonifacio, G. Sanchez, Carroll, Hermida, Hayes, and why not Morrison. Yes Jeremy sits at the kids table for this one.

Andy Gonzalez has been called up. Not much of a shock with Hanley hurting and Boner getting hit by that pitch last night. He'll be the emergency backup shortstop, most likely.
