There is so much variance in the playoffs. We're going to hang our hats on the fact that the team won the WS the two times they made the playoffs in 20 years.

I will concede that the Marlins clearly got the best of the Toronto trade. If I ever said it was an awful trade, I was dead wrong but those of you who are defending 10 years of suck make me want to vomit.
My favorite thing is how the line keeps moving for you.

Cubs and Indians are no brainers. History and trying to win > lucking into it or just not caring about winning. After all, the new wave of baseball thinking doesn't care about the results, it's the process. Right, isn't that why we have BABIP and ISO and all those fun things instead of just looking at batting average?

Or does caring about the process only matter when it's convenient, because, you know, championship! (Singular)
Marlins have won more games than the Indians over the last 11 years.

I'm also not necessarily sure that franchise's history matters much.

Also, if you're going to do the condescending "process matters lol nerdzzzz" thing, the Diamondbacks' process has arguably been far worse than the Marlins' over that time span. They lucked into one crazy postseason appearance and have been far worse overall in that span.

Most of the Marlins games I've been to over the years have been in a lifeless football stadium where the overwhelming majority of the seats were empty. Of course, we got a stadium after the owner kept a tiny payroll and threatened to move out of town on several occasions until the city built him a stadium. Also, even though I live in Florida, it's rare to find someone who gives a shit about the Marlins. Then there's the fact that I can only root for young star players knowing with almost certainty that they'll be out of town before they ever reach their prime. The Marlins are not an easy franchise to be a fan of.
A bunch of those things can be said about the Indians, as well, besides a football stadium. That town abandoned that team before about three weeks ago, and they hate ownership a whole bunch too. They've lost nearly all of their stars in that span too. The only one they've really been able to keep around through his prime was Hafner, if I'm remembering correctly.

Being a Marlins fan has not been fun over the past 10 years. I just think maybe some of y'all overstate it a bit. But I also get it.

      • To be fair, if you go back just a little bit further, the Indians made the postseason 5 out of 6 years, two world series, and sold out 455 straight games.

        • My dad's an Indians fan, I think he would strongly disagree with the assessment that being an Indians fan is any fun.

            • Yeah, their highlight was losing the 1997 World Series to an expansion team.

                • Yeah, as a fan, I get a lot of enjoyment out of the stadium being sold out.

WE SOLD OUR STADIUM OUT, IN YOUR FACE.

The Blue Jackets sold out 83 games in a row once...and lost like 62 of them. So, ya know...who cares.
                  --------------------
Anyway, ranking which team its most fun to be a fan of is a little silly.

Being a Marlins fan hasn't been a lot of fun recently. But 2003 was also about as fun as being a baseball fan can ever get.

Personally, I don't really care what its like to be fans of other teams.
                  --------------------
The reason I say it's silly is because most fans wouldn't trade being a fan of their team for being a fan of any other team, even if said other team had won 10 straight titles. Fanhood doesn't really make sense.

                  • But they were very successful in the span of all those sellouts. 459 sell outs, 276-183 at home in that span. Not like they were the 98 Marlins out there.

                    • I know, I'm just saying it's a silly reason to list why being a fan of a team is fun.
                      --------------------
Cleveland fans don't have fun when they're winning btw. They just spend the whole time wondering what bad way it's going to end and dreading that inevitable conclusion.

They're pretty hilarious. Or sad. Depending on your point of view.

Perhaps you don't get it. Or you're doing a thing.

Advanced statistics give a better prediction of what ultimately will occur, I.e, result.

It doesn't mean results don't matter.

                          So which one was it?

                          • I don't understand how the Cubs, Indians, etc. have had a better process over the past decade than the Marlins.

Spending more money doesn't necessarily mean that you're following the correct process and it's resulting in bad luck.

                              Agreed.

I just think a bit of critical self reflection can be useful at times.
