Yes, but Giancarlo Stanton never hit Giancarlo Stanton. Fernandez did.

This is absolutely insanely stupid, especially when this is a lost season and Jacob Turner makes much much much more sense to fill that space. Again, this is absolutely stupid, even if Fernandez dominates. Speeding up his clock for absolutely no reason.

Hell, Yelich is probably more ready to be in the majors than Fernandez (even if Fernandez is the better prospect), and I'd rather see him spend at least half a season in AA.

But that Beinfest statement, where they say "He just seemed ready"...Well, Mike Redmond made the EXACT SAME STATEMENT about Yelich. Why one over the other?
Well Redmond is saying things best on his eyes only. I'd like to believe that Beinfest has most of the front office and a whole bunch of scouts who believe this as well. You don't just rush someone from A ball on a whim. There's certainly reasoning behind this although it is weird for the penny-pinching Marlins to be the ones doing this.

Comparing Stanton in A ball to Fernandez in A ball makes 0 sense.

Because different people made the statement/observation?

I hope other teams who call up guys early also say, well Giancarlo Stanton had to go to AA

Furthermore, Stanton his his 39hr in low A ball in a hitter's paradise.

Fernandez was absolutely dominant in High A last year. Big difference in the 2 leagues

The FSL is a pitchers paradise.

Fair but it's a higher level than the SALLY league and he dominated it

Stanton still had issues in low A

Especially since A ballers are free swingers. He hasn't faced any really patient hitters yet and that's almost all he's going to be facing in the majors. Add in the difference in how players are treated in A ball (very hands on coaching) to the majors (much, MUCH less coaching) makes this even more stupid than just starting his clock at the start of a throw away season.

Let me preface this by saying I think Fernandez will hold his own in the majors. I don't think he'll be dominant, but he'll be good enough to stay in the rotation (probably be our best pitcher).

But when we're pretty much playing for pride this season, what's the point of starting his clock early?

The Marlins know better than to start a clock early for no reason. So maybe this is a good thing

Also, I'd rather Fernandez pitch in a non pressure season as a rookie, than in a high pressure season as a rookie

Interesting point that made me realize the same outraged folks over this would be outraged if we called him up midseason at some point and had his first start in a big game in a tough environment

I think there's a lot more outrage for the sake of outrage because that's what happens

                        of course

the front office can't win right now... and not that I can blame that thinking, but still

that being said, certainly a little more interested in the Marlins every 5th day than I would have been

He can pitch 8 shutout innings and with the lineup we have might leave with a no decision.

I'm sure half the Cuban fans don't know who he is yet.
