Hugg was right. I still clicked "view post".

I saw that you were viewing the thread so I said hi. It's the new laid back, warned by Admin Namaste.

per Miami Herald twitter, the Marlins sold less than 300 single game tickets to 162 games the other day, and that they have less than 500 full season ticketholders.

In the 2nd year of a new stadium, and this is what it has come to.

Do you have a link to that? Because I can't find it on the Herald's twitter of the Herald Sports' twitter.

        Just asking, not doubting

The first number seems legit but I would think they would have more season ticket holders than that.

I would think all 30 AAA teams have more season ticket holders than that.

I'd have to go back and look, but the season ticket number sounds off to me too. Maybe that number is for full 162 game season tickets, but even at that, it has to be too low of a number.

On Joe Rose's show today he said the Marlins even claim that less than 5,000 attended the event. Last year more than 40,000 attended.

Samson also must have been there, because they were playing a Samson soundbyte all show long, with Samson defending themselves over the Dolphins claims they "are not the Marlins" in their campaign to get taxpayer money to fix up Sun Life Stadium. Samson said (paraphrased), "I understand what the Dolphins are doing, but you just have to be truthful, and let them know the real facts". Of course they were having fun with the "truthful" part, because Samson & Loria have been proven to have been less than truthful about their money situation during the stadium process.

How many season ticket packages (total) did the Marlins sell last year? 10K?

They claim to have sold 25K FSE's (full season equivalents, so one full, two halves, etc).

I've also been told that renewal this year is just below 20%. Knowing the way the human mind operates, that suggests to me that it's above 15% since that's the next benchmark number down. Give or take a few Erick's buying some kind of plan (so it's "new" not renewal) and you've got about 5K FSEs.

The bad year is going to be next year. The Marlins did, I think, a September 15 early renewal deadline for pay in full savings. I'd imagine that a decent number of those may reconsider.

Also, just as a reference point, the Marlins claimed to have 5K FSEs at Sun Life and that they got to about 11K in 2011 in anticipation of the new facility. Samson also admitted (on LeBatard?) that the 5K number was exaggerated and they were actually closer to 2.5K FSEs.

I guess it'll be interesting to see which has a greater negative impact on attendance: apathy (Sun Life) or anger (now).

                    Yes, because I bought tickets.

The shitty thing is it's not these players faults and their "home" games are gonna be a joke. At what point will MLB do some thing about this? Brand new stadium no one there. Collecting revenue sharing checks when they are hardly putting any revenue into the pot. I think this year could be the tipping point.

I think if there is/was to be a tipping point, it would be 2014 if things didn't improve at ll

For the educated (SABR/knows who's on the farm/what's out there this year in FA) fan, perhaps.

For everyone else, the tipping point was Firesale 2012.

It's not MLB, per se, it's the other owners.

MLB (since I assume that's just 'The Commissioner's Office') has under Selig established a pretty strong precedent of not stepping in unless the franchise's long-term best interests are compromised. It's why he stopped McCourt from selling the TV rights for an admitted below market rate, I think $750 million (that just went for $6 billion), but not why he forced the Wilpons out, and secured loans for the Mets and D'Backs when payroll was going to be missed.

The other owners getting angry that revenue sharing just goes into Loria's pocket is the best bet, but the league is overflowing with cash, so this might not be an issue until the CBA expires, which is after 2016.

Either way, I still think the 2014 season could be that tipping point
