you think those were legitimate playoff teams or you just want to continue to be a homer? 2020 it took 8 wild cards and a 60 game season. our pythagorean w/l that year was 26-34. 2023 that was not a very good team, they had a solid rotation, an awful lineup, and a fuck ton of luck in 1 run games with a 33-14 record that was far and away the best in baseball which is not a skill. our pythagorean win loss that year was 75-87 and getting demolished in the playoffs by real contenders and last year's regression proved that. using either of those seasons as reasons to think of this franchise highly is pathetic. you have homer stockholm syndrome. no one finds this team appealing to play for unless you are comparing them to the a's.

the difference between our actual w/l and the expected w/l each of those years was the biggest in baseball.

    • masataka yoshida is a guy i would take a flier on along with another piece since the red sox are trying to dump his contract. He's got 3 years at 18 million each. He's a good hitter, just not able to play in the field so if the sox take on say 8 million per year, id give him 3 years 30 million as our DH if it means getting another piece from their system to do so.

      • Even if you ignore Pythagorean record, if you take our playoff record into account for 2020 and 2023, we were only 5 games over .500 for those 2 years combined.

You should become an Angels fan, then. I think it’s a great idea!

            • We got Matt mervis from the cubs for brujan. Good move, brujan stinks and we have a million middle infielders and mervis was a former top 100 guy a year or so ago who needs an opportunity. Honestly kind of similar to the circumstances that got us brujan last year

Mervis is the exact type of player we should be taking a flier on. He was highly thought of before struggling last season. Nothing left to prove in AAA. So it seems as though the plan at the moment is to replace Burger with some combo of Mervis and Wagaman.

I laugh when I read posts like this. I laugh because every 30 days or so you tell me angrily, “you post nothing of substance”.

You should be careful of using your go-to dig because the vast majority of your posts are just like the one I quoted above: saying something but saying nothing.

Brujan stinks? Water is also wet

We have a million middle infielders? No fucking shit?? No one on the forum knows that thanks!

Mervis was a former Top 100 guy? Man, that’s so insightful! Keep it coming!

literally all of that is substance. i never claimed to be breaking hard hitting news there. It's a solid trade of former top 100 prospects, once of which we know stinks and the other hasnt gotten much of a chance at the major league level yet. It's a good trade for the marlins to make. What more would you like me to say about that?

And you do post nothing of substance. Your posts are either the thrilling anecdote of meeting X, some dumb bullshit trying to make the marlins seem like they are a major league organization, or bitching about someone else for being realistic about the marlins and not baghdad bob like you.

                    • With Spring Training about 6 weeks away, what’s a realistic move do you think the Marlins will make?

I think they are likely to add a veteran hitter or 2. Obviously it’ll someone on a cheap 1 year deals, like they did with Tim Anderson last year. My guess is a RHH outfielder that can play CF. Bader has been mentioned before. Kike Hernandez who can play CF and has ties to McCullough from the Dodgers. Amed Rosario could be an even cheaper option but can’t play CF.

I could also see them adding a veteran catcher. Yasmani Grandal is still out there and he’d at least be an upgrade on Pereda, who is still holding a 40 man spot for some reason.

Nothing. Nothing is a realistic move.

this is the correct answer. they will add 1-2 guys who are coming off terrible years who are likely just done as players to 1 year, 5 million deals and act as if their comeback is inevitable, when really it is just another in the long line of tim andersons, mike morses, johnny cueto, avisail garcia's, etc.

This franchise doesnt turn around until they identify pieces internally that they can sign long term early. ive said it for years, it's the only way to contention with a payroll this low. You sign them early, then that allows you to spend a little more money on outside free agents to 1-2 year deals to fill in the holes from there.

LOL…I didn’t say good move. But they are likely to do something before spring training to bring in a veteran presence. I would normally find it somewhat silly to need to bring in someone for “veteran leadership”, but with a rookie manager and the most experienced bats being Fortes and Jesus Sanchez, they should probably have somebody to help out all of the young players this season.

Kike seems to be the safe play out of the 3 names you listed. He seems like the kind of guy in the clubhouse that gets along with everyone and Bader doesn’t speak Spanish as far as I know.

                              • Yeah, Kike stood out to me because he ticks off all the boxes. He won’t cost more than a 1 year deal at $5-8 million, he might sign here for guaranteed playing time and the opportunity to get flipped to a contender at the deadline, plays a position of need that won’t block anyone this year, and knows the new manager.
