The only thing that might make this deal acceptable is if they have some kind of injury info on Luzardo that makes them believe he’ll continue to be very familiar with the DL.

I think some might have overvalued Luzardo. Injury issues aside, he is a guy with a big fastball that doesn't move much and a really good slider. His other repertoire isn't anything to write home about.

Sherman is old. I'm hoping his plan is to make the team quite cheap but pretty loaded with young talent in the majors and minors and finding a younger potential owner who can have a close to ready made team in a market that could grow especially with a nice stadium.

The Athletic has a blurb about us flirting with CBA trouble and risking a MLBPA grievance.

We’re required to carry a luxury-tax payroll more than 1.5 times what they receive in revenue sharing. We’re getting roughly $70M next year, so we’d have to have a luxury tax payroll of $105M at the end of next season, and we’re currently at $83M.



They go on to mention 45% of that $83M is unrelated to the current roster (players not on the team anymore or player benefits, pre arb bonus pool etc.).



So at some point we’ll have to actually spend money. It’s ridiculous.

first, sherman is 76, which isnt young but the guy isnt on his death bed anytime soon. Second, there is 0 indication he has any intention of selling this team any time soon. this is it. he is the worst owner in baseball, fighting to be the worst in the 4 major sports. This is going to be an active payroll under 55 million. Any talks of adding a major free agent is a joke.

Pittsburgh and Oakland/Sacramento/LV are the biggest competition. Moreno is incompetent but he spends big time money.

Semi related……..if I had to choose between being an Angels fan (10 year playoff drought) or a Marlins fan (2 playoff appearances in the last 4 years), I’d pick the Marlins in a heartbeat.

i'd choose living in LA with fans in the stands and an owner who at least cares and behaves like a major league owner as opposed to playing in miami in front of 8k fans a night for an owner who has no business owning a professional sports team. Our 2 playoff appearances obviously count, but they were flukey. 2020 was 60 games and last year was cool but not really a legitimate contender. we were 6 games over .500 with a -57 run differential.
