Dave Pepe, the agent for pitcher Carl Pavano, spoke to the Marlins yesterday, but there’s no indication on how those talks went.
One Marlins source didn’t seem enthusiastic about the team taking a chance on Pavano, who won 18 games for the Marlins in 2004.
Pavano saw limited action last year because of shoulder issues. And his velocity has fallen over the last two years.
But Pepe is expected to talk with the team again. Bottom line: the Marlins could use a veteran innings-eater on what will be an inexperienced rotation aside from Ricky Nolasco.
And the Marlins might be just the team for Pavano to prove that he’s still an effective pitcher.
Real bottom line: Marlins not interested, but we refuse to let this story die.
