This team is going into rebuilding mode AGAIN for the next few years, and Stanton's gonna want out at some point. Might as well trade him to Texas, who has the best players to offer, while his value is at its all time highest.

But knowing the Marlins we'll see them wait until Stanton has a down year or gets injured to trade him.
Well Texas has been telling agents(Bourn) that they are not looking to sign anyone because they want Stanton.

Any deal will be Perez OR Buckel but ya that is what a deal we want would look like-Profar/Olt/Perez or Buckel and one of Grimm/Font/Lindblom/Martin

      • Part of me just wants them to trade him now and get it over with if they know they're not going to be able to keep him. If they really can get a package like that from Texas, you're probably not ever going to get more than that. Obviously the ideal situation would be to lock him up long term, but that doesn't seem very likely at this point.

        • I only hope they are waiting for spring training to get him in a legit face to face to smooth things over and sign the 7 year deal. And if Stanton tells them see you in arbitration, they take Texas' farm system.

The only bad thing they can do is to do nothing. He will never be more valuable than pre-arbitration.

I mean look at the Upton deal. Yea Stanton is better, but that deal sucks (although Seattle did pony up). Don't let him get expensive. Sign or trade now!

That seems to be the plan, they can go on every program and say he won't be dealt. However if he rejects an extension(which THEY WILL be offering during ST),he has to be dealt. That is what Texas is waiting for actually(they have already told teams/agents that is who they want),they have already called us and we have already told them what we want in return. The only problem with this all would be if Profar amazes in ST or Andrus gets hurt and they don't wanna deal him then we are really stuck. There is no chance we take a Olt/Perez or Buckel deal for him like they offered for Upton

Also possible that if a deal is reached that Ricky goes for a Grimm or Lindblom as well. I have heard that is 1 reason why they havent jumped on Lohse yet. They would rather pay a 1 year deal then sign Lohse to 3/4 yr deal and lose a pick. YES MLB would not be able to say anything either since Texas would be willing to pay his contract

What happens then ? Unless they get lucky and land another superstar, they are then up shit's creek. No future HoF'er to trade away - think about it, they could actually vie for the old Mets 1962 40 win season, multiple years in a row.
They wouldn't even come close to a 40 win team. There's still talent out there, whether you like to believe that or not

as regards to Hanley & Johnson, its debatable whether or not they signed them freely or under pressure. MLB & MLBPA possibly pressured them into those signings, FWIR.

As for more than 40 wins, who knows, but they sure as hell won't be out of last place without another 2006 type miracle season.

Dude the stinch from this team this year will smell like a baby's nasty 3 day old dirty diaper.

                Goochie, goochie goo.

regardless if they were forced to sign Hanley and JJ, they did.

I don't know what the last part of your post means

                          • If you lost $40 million in one year you would leave a diaper on for 3 days.

Only signing players of importance when you are forced, or to make a splash (because of a new stadium) is no way to run an organization that is dedicated to winning. Singing players that will help your team win is what its supposed to be about. Just signing players to fill places will get you last place for a 3rd straight year.

Anyone at this point anyone is qualified to be their GM. They aren't trying to win, just fill spaces because they have too.

You believe they lost $ 40 million ? What, because they said so ?

There is no earthly way that they lost $40 million last year.
