There’s no sugarcoating how bad this team has drafted, but hopefully the development will improve with new people in place and maybe we actually see some growth from guys like Berry, Cappe, Mesa, Lewis, etc. The latter 3 have had their moments, and while Berry was not a pick any of us loved, the thought was that his bat would be relatively safe. If the new staff can even get that to where it should be, that would help the system out significantly.

In Barry Jackson and Mish’s latest for the Herald, it talks a little bit about the potential Orioles deal for Luzardo that didn’t happen, but even more interestingly says that the Marlins and Royals briefly discussed a deal last year centered around Eury for Bobby Witt Jr. It says no official offer was ever made, but it was discussed. That’s wild. I don’t know that I can ever remember a trade like that in baseball where arguably the best future hitting star was traded for the best young pitching star. I don’t know how I would have felt about that.

just saw a video for the first time of sixto actually throwing with all his effort instead of what we've seen for the last 3 years where he looks like if he throws too hard his shoulder is going to pay off. First time ive seen him in several years throw with some actual violence behind the pitch. No idea what the speed is though but that's a positive at least. he would have to make the team out of spring since he's out of options. Would probably be the least likely comeback in quite a long time if he ever pitches again at the big league level after missing 3 full seasons.

Or he gets "hurt" in spring training and can hide him at complex for a few weeks in April and then a few week rehab in minors to artificially create 6 weeks.

i think they will be careful with him, but i would put him in the rotation right away. he's not just coming back from TJ. He's been healthy for what, 5 months now? He's the 3rd overall pick and a guy who was projected to be a top of the rotation type guy, let him start early and then move him to the pen late in the year.

He needs a rehab stint to have live game action.

For me, the real question is will they keep him down until July to deflect service time or is this a May call up when some rust is shaken (assuming he looks good) and they don't care. There is a full year at stake here, it's not a super 2 debate. A July call up means 2025-2029 versus 2028. The Kim regime would keep him down based on Cabrera, Garrett, and Eury. This one is a good indication for Bendix's approach.

It's off or silly. Noble is a universal top 100 guy. It's nice to see Fulton get some love though.

I also think the farm ranking is extremely deceptive when Eury and Edwards (6) and Cabrera, Garrett, Burger, Nardi, Fortes, and Max Meyer (5) are not considered. Massive control and it's not their fault they developed guys who actually graduated or landed, or traded Eder for one of them. Add those guys to the "farm" as effectively it's the same control years minus just a few for those guys with 5 years, and what's that ranking all of a sudden as teams would dream to get what they got out of Eury, Garrett, and Burger last year, and Cabrera is frankly set to explode into a real SP or elite pen arm if he doesn't have the control.

The team is fine. They have so much control they can rebuild the farm 2-3 years and not have to rely on it if they get the last 2-3 core guys they need. It's up to Bruce to do the right thing.

Good. Whoever is cheaper of Anderson or Rosario so they can spend money elsewhere (laugh track). And land Mondesi on a MILB deal as plan C (after Berti). Just give him an opt out July 1 if not called up or whatever.

Tanner Scott has reportedly won his arb case

After Scott’s arbitration decision, the Marlins payroll is projected to be at just over $90 million according to Spotrac.com. Last year, they ended with a payroll of about $105 million. I don’t know what say Mancini would get if makes the roster, but it can’t be too much. There’s at least another $10-$15 million to spend on this roster. This team should be all over someone like JD Martinez on a 1 year deal. At the very least, Urshela and Anderson. Spring training games start in a few days…they’ve waited out the market. Time for Bendix to make a few moves.
