  • I gotta think Berti is gone this offseason. He has value, but i dont see a role for him, Hampson, and Edwards on the same roster, and i want to see Edwards and Hampson on the roster

More of a SS/3b with some 1b sprinkled in. Good depth at least. Better than leblanc. More power than any other SS we've had for years at the very least. Drafted by the pirates and traded to the rays for marlins legend Corey Dickerson.
Aha! Former Rice teammate of Dane Myers. Both were drafted in 2017. His whiff rate is right there with Burdick. Heck, he is Burdick. At least Dietrich drew walks and also enhanced his OBP by getting hit by a pitch every day or two.

.825 OPS vs RHP last year, and two year split around .785. Big sample size. Remember, Amaya is better against lefties if this guy can play some SS. Could be a platoon guy before later game Amaya defense if they don’t get a long term SS Fine depth signing here.

        • Funny enough, in his brief debut last year, Tristan Gray's big league homer came against none other than jorge lopez on the orioles after we designated him for assignment. He also hit a bomb off Cueto in a rehab outing. Unfortunately, hitting bombs off Lopez and Cueto were not all that rare last year.

Based on the body of work of Ng and Bendix. I would have loved to have both, but if I had to trade her to get him, that’s a pretty easy yes for me.

I never claimed to know that he would be better. I said that was my opinion based on the information we have.

You literally say in your post - the draft is a crapshoot. We could've picked guy B, and he sucked, and then the mantra would've been "should've picked guy A"

Just because you may wind up right, but also writing off any player so soon is dumb in itself.

                ---

That said, we've been bad at drafting for a while now. A change was needed there, and that's why Kim isn't here anymore.

I think there is some logic to trading Berti, but I’d be shocked to see them move him if Skip has any say. The way he was used last year, they appear to like him quite a bit.

He needs to run more. I don't know if he had an injury, but him not running much this year, especially with the rule changes, was dumb.

Plus, having guys in motion can help avoid some of the double plays we hit into.

I don't know how you can compare their body of work when Ng has been in a position where she has been the top decision maker when it comes to baseball moves in an organization and Bendix hasn't.

I thought it was confirmed that he was dealing with a minor lower body injury basically the whole season.

she wasnt exactly great in her position as the top decision maker. She had awful daily roster management, signed Cueto and Segura, and had a fairly disastrous 2022 draft, which is hard to do being just a year and a half removed from that draft. She was great on trades with Arraez, Burger, and Bell, but pretty fucking awful everywhere else. She was an average at best GM with her faults being in the areas that we need to succeed most at to be a consistent winner. Not sad to see her go and replaced with a guy who played a big role in the front office of a team who has to be built like the marlins making the most out of limited resources.

Was he? Guess that explains it

                            • according to this guy Andres Bolivar, we are one of the teams in the catcher market and have looked at Grandal and Garver. Garver is more of a DH and a spare C and Grandal is still a decent defender but has been pretty bad as a hitter for the last 2 years. Neither guy would seem to be a full time answer. I think Fortes is still going to be involved as a backup who gets a lot of playing time.

Garver would make a ton more sense to me if they are confident that the robo umps are coming after this upcoming year. I might pull the trigger regardless if he can catch 90-100 games and DH another 30. His bat is that good where i would overlook the defensive deficiencies. Especially important that he is that productive offensively from the C position. Corner OF is a lot easier to find. No idea what they do at SS but finding a high level offensive catcher would take a lot of pressure of Bendix to find the high level SS and 1 corner OF guy they need.

Garver also has some 1b experience so there is a world where he can play 130-140 games, with a lot of them coming at 1b and DH splitting time with bell to keep them both fresh but still in the lineup on a very consistent basis.

                              • They did a Rays thing again - Vidal Brujan + an inventory arm

Brujan is OOO. He’s making the team. He’s a good bet for what they gave up (Lindsey)
