That being said, if not spending is a given, I’d rather someone who can help them contend on little money rather than someone who won’t help them contend spending little money.

this team is going to have to improve via trade and minor pieces in free agency. idk how many times players have to show us they dont want to be here. We need to start winning consistently for any major guys to start signing here. To think we are going to sign Bellinger or have any chance is just absurd.

With Soler likely gone, that opens up a lot more playing time for Edwards, but it remains to be seen if they want to move arraez to 1b. they seemed hesitant to do so last year. It seems like the obvious move, but they shied away from that last year.
With Soler gone, i would move Bell to DH full time because he wears ankle weights defensively, move Arraez to 1b, Edwards gets an every day shot at 2b, trade for Adames and Jansen, and then go get one of the many corner OF's that are available for relatively cheap every year in FA. Then 1 decent innings eating SP and a middle reliever. Realistically, we arent going to go sign a big time SP because of our limited resources and Sandy only being out for a year. I think they will try to piece it together next year with 1 minor move and then get everyone back and healthy for 2025.

A Rays front office strategy alone isn’t going to cut it for me. Nothing is going to change without Bruce funding at least contending windows even if they burn it all down after. So this is a “cool” move with all eyes on Bruce to do his part after the team
made the playoffs. Please Bruce don’t lose the momentum. It sucks Sandy got hurt but the team will be good if you want it to be.

Jeffers, Vazquez
Kiriloff, Miranda
Julien
Correa, Farmer
Lewis
Wallner, Larnach
Buxton (they want to play him more defensively I read)
Castro
TBD - Kepler, Polanco, Gordon
They have Brooks Lee coming mid season too. Aka who the Marlins should have drafted before Berry.
If we’re talking Twins, I think Polanco makes sense. Especially if he can play SS for 80 games which would give them an interesting platoon with Berti. Polanco is a RHP splits guy for his career so you’d forsake some defense to get his offense before a late game defensive change, etc.

If Bruce will spend money guys will come here. But frankly if those are the prices - and add in $100m to Castellanos which was too much - a lot of these guys are hard passes.
Eduardo they had around $90m in a new deal over 4+ years. I think that would make sense to open up a SP trade for young bats, etc. I think Bruce can afford two deals around that and maintain sub $120m payrolls. I’ll have to think about the prices for my own internal thoughts of what may be possible.

We’re on the same page for the plan. Adames, Jansen, and a good FA Sp for a few years would be my ideal top 3 moves. Adames also gets a $150m extension there and Jansen a smaller $25-30m one. Luzardo, Arraez, and Eury all extended, and maybe Jazz and Scott too.
This team is good and call the parenthesis years of control if they did do those extensions which they should.
Jansen (4), Fortes (5) (Banfield 6)
Arraez (6)
Edwards (6) (Amaya 6, Cappe 6)
Adames (6), Berti (1)
Burger (5)
Barger (6), Hampson (1)
Jazz (3+)
Sanchez (4)
Bell (1), DLC (4)
Eury (8), Luzardo (5), Garrett (5), Cabrera (5), New Free Agent (4), Max (5), Weathers (5), DL - Sandy (4) (I’ll use Rogers here to get Adames, which is reasonable as Adames has 1 control year) (with Noble and White in pipeline. We’ll say Fulton going to Toronto)
Scott (3), Puk (3), Okert (3) (We’ll use Nardi in Tor deal too)
ton of club controlled right handers with 4-6 years of control but will likely need 1-2 high leverage ones. Sounds like deadline moves
I think we’d all be pumped and the team is literally set IMO. They can get Candelarios and Moores and Rosario’s at the deadline as needed.
$120m in 2024 and that includes the $25m in dead money to Sandy, Garcia, Barnes, and Cueto
