I'm very interested to see how she handles the roster IN SEASON this year, as that was a catastrophe the last 2 years. Leaving the ML team short handed for weeks at a time was ridiculous. A day-to-day guy, ok. But guys clearly hurt and unable to contribute for weeks should be put on the IL and a replacement brought in. Coupled with Don's bizarre unnecessary double switches, leaving the club even more short handed at the end of games, and we were in bad shape.

    So, we'll see:

    1a) If it was her?

1b) If so, did she learn from her mistakes over the last 2 years?

or 2) was it others in the org above/beside her (Jeter, Denbo) that collectively couldn't agree and caused paralysis, and therefore no moves.
Im very interested to see how skip manages. The cardinals have been great for a long time at in game management so im hoping that rubbed off on him. If it did i could see that being a multi game improvement over Mattingly. Mattingly was a complete trainwreck as an in game manager. I could never understand why he found it so hard to just leave his best players in the game. It's one thing for a lefty/lefty matchup with 2 outs in the 9th. He was doing shit in the 6th and 7th innings though and it would consistently come back to bite us in the ass. He needed to go. Hopefully skip can improve that aspect of the team.

    • Another article about a Marlins hitting breakout, this one for Sanchez - https://blogs.fangraphs.com/szymbors...dates-hitters/

Many DLC ones this offseason, a fair number of Sanchez (and Luzardo and Rogers), and a few for Fortes.

      • More "good" Yankees news, Bader is hurt and might be out awhile. An oblique.

The Marlins could *really* help them out getting them a SP + Wendle + J. Sanchez + Amaya for depth

It sounds insane, but they don't need Gleyber and Peraza........

        Trevino, Higashioka
        Rizzo
        DJ
        Wendle, IKF
        Donaldson, O. Cabrera
        Judge, J. Sanchez
        Hicks
        Stanton

        DL - Bader
        AAA - Volpe mid-season, R. Ortega J. Bauers, W. Calhoun

Yankess payroll decreases close to $4m, meaning the Yankees could creatively sign PROFAR (who they have been linked to) on top of this for their last spot which I think we all agree really helps out that depth chart for say...$5.75m + an option with buyout next year (similar to Wacha deal) so they can stay under the luxury threshold they are currently $2m under.

You add Rogers or Cabrera to that (Garrett will not cut it), and that's going to be really hard for them to pass up IMO.

Rogers/Cabrera, Wendle, J. Sanchez, Amaya (and they can sign Profar with open money)
        for
        Peraza, Gleyber

IMO, this does not fuck with the Yankees based on getting a huge SP, a stopgap SS/MI, and two nice swings at depth pieces with Sanchez/Amaya. Versus off loading a SS and very expensive 2B they will not be resigning with Volpe coming.

Frankly, juice them with another prospect on top of this outside top 6 guys. Trade Cooper to remove his salary next.... and NO CHANGE in Marlins payroll. Music to Bruce's ears.

        Fortes, Stallings
        Arraez, Gurriel
        Gleyber
        Peraza, Iglesias
        Segura, Berti
        DLC
        Jazz
        Garcia
        Soler

A lot of DH for Gurriel and Soler/Berti popping out to LF 100+ starts, etc.

And then sign Dylan Bundy for cheap to be a 6th SP to replace the innings and pray Eury/Eder/Sixto have some innings to give come July.

Just saying, a smaller version of this or a larger version of this (absorbing Hicks) can work. This is the best time they will ever have to swing for the fences and get Peraza.

        • Dlc with a homer off of colome who has had a great career but appears done. Very interesting decision to be made. They essentially have to choose 3 out of 4 of gurriel, iglesias, Sanchez, dlc

luzardo also had a really nice outing. He’s a stud. 4 innings, 6 k’s, 4 hits, 1 walk, only one run on former farm hand stone Garrett home run.

puk now in for his spring debut which is a good sign

It will work itself out. One of them will perform very poorly between now and Opening Day. It’s not exactly Bonds, A-Rod, Ichiro and Ricky Henderson.

I do think it's time to bet on Luzardo and up the offer. 5/$35 (that includes 2023) is the comp, but I think it may be time to really go and lock him in to say 6/$45-52.5 (includes this year). That would be one of the largest SP deals in history for a guy with his service time/performance, and that's 2 free agency years there. No options. He'd be a free agent at 32 which isn't bad.

Of course he can bet on himself and next year he might be looking at 6/$85 range (which is also fine from the Marlins perspective). It's nice having 4+ years of control on these guys.

                • Anyone else think that Nassim Nunez has become a top ten (or higher) prospect in the organization?

No. Maybe he barely sneaks into top 20.

He’s likely going to get carved up offensively as pitchers at higher levels can throw right at him with no slugging threat. Hope that’s wrong though.

                    • From Marlin Minors twitter: "Asked Skip about the Mesas who are on the card today; he wouldn’t give any takes just yet. But he did go out of his way to call out Kahlil Watson. Stated he’s had the most impressive ABs in MiLB camp. Has homered off Castano and Villalobos." Good for Watson! And for the Marlins down the road.

Sure wish a reporter would bring us up to date on Jake Eder's progress.

                      • The wbc games at marlins park are always so electric. If we can ever make the playoff games it really will be such a good atmosphere in that place

Unless he gets stronger he will never be a big League player.

Agreed. Id try to lock him and Cabrera and have some vision and get them cheaper than they will be after this year. Same with jazz
