But I also read they love McCarthy and don't think the league values him appropriately. I think Alek Thomas is the one they trade.
Walker is also right handed and is a pass for me. Nice player, but they need someone younger if they make a move for a 1B.

lots of rumors out there this morning, none have us spending money other than turner who we are supposedly in on. I like turner, but just dont think he would choose to sign here instead of a contender. to me he has going back to the dodgers written all over him. Id like him at 3b for 2 years though.
Rumors that we are talking with the twins about pablo, and there are also rumors that we have checked in with the diamondbacks about their many OF's. We will see what happens. I like Varsho, but as everyone knows there is thomas, mccarthy, and carroll as well. I think all of them can play CF so the diamondbacks do make sense as a pablo team. They have Gallen and Kelly and that's about it. In terms of replacing pablo for a year for innings, i think there is some sort of deal that makes sense where its pablo and maybe prospects for bumgarner and some of the salary eaten and one of the OF's. Id like that and i think it would make sense for both teams. Im not exactly sure what the d-backs long term goals are in terms of time frame to compete, but we do have a trade history with them between jazz and marte, so it makes sense.

mish said that the marlins offer to jose abreu was in the realm of 2 years 40 million. He says that when that wasnt accepted, he thought they would in turn reinvest that money in a similarly priced free agent, but other than turner he's not hearing much.

lost in the discussion of the marlins doing 0 so far to address their lineup is the fact that theyve dont next to 0 to improve the back end of the bullpen other than select enright in the rule 5. Tanner Scott and Floro absolutely cannot be the back end pieces in the bullpen again.

"Marlins Young SP" and Soler (let's say Rogers)
"DBacks Young CF" and Bumgarner
Which still lets you trade Pablo for A. Rosario/X. Curry + prospects as you have 5 SP still.
Even better if you then trade another young SP for Reynolds/Bednar/Brubaker. Blow it out in this trade. Let's say this is Cabrera.
Sign Turner still
All of a sudden you'd have this and it's like $100m with nothing clogging the books.
Fortes, Stallings
Cooper
Jazz
ROSARIO, Wendle
TURNER, Berti
REYNOLDS, De La Cruz
A. THOMAS
Garcia, J. Sanchez
Sandy, Luzardo, Garrett, BUMGARNER, BRUBAKER
BEDNAR, Floro, Chargois, Enright
Bleier, Okert, Scott, Castano
Still have Eury, at least two of Meyer/Eder/Fulton, X. Curry (a SP prospect in Rosario deal), and most of Berry/Salas/Cappe/Mack/Lewis
Yea trading 3 MLB SP is rough, but what are you going to do if you won't spend? You got some stop gaps doing this, and Eury/Sixto/Meyer or Eder/Fulton/Curry are coming so you may *still* have 10 SP under control all MLB ready at some point in 2023. It gives you a chance.
Why does this front office have no vision? Bruce that cheap?

Like you said, Rogers for Bumgarner and lets say thomas/McCarthy.
Pablo, throw in Rojas/Wendle, and prospects for Rosario and Naylor. Sign Turner.
You're looking at
C- Fortes
1b- Naylor
2b- Jazz
SS- Rosario
3b- Turner
LF- Soler
CF- Thomas/McCarthy
RF- Garcia
DH- Cooper
Sp- Sandy, Luzardo, Cabrera, Garrett, Bumgarner, with Meyer and Eder and eury as depth to eventually replace Bumgarner and likely Garrett long term. That's a damn good team. Which is the most frustrating thing. This team is not terribly far from a feasibly good team. I just have 0 confidence in Sherman to do what it takes to make it happen. All throughout the rebuild, I was so optimistic because I foolishly thought that when the time came to spend once the farm was rebuilt and a core came to the majors, he would do what it takes to spend the money and win. But he just isnt going to do that. The fact that we have such a low payroll and we arent even trying to get Correa is ridiculous. If we simply were able to sign correa, that's one less piece you would have to give up in order to get a guy like Rosario, and one more piece you can either keep on the team or trade to fill another hole (longterm C, 1b, CF, etc). It would make this whole scenario of trying to contend so much easier. But he just wont spend the money.

Trevor Williams, who has had a nice 7 year career so far after we traded him for an executive that we then fired a year later, signs with the nationals for 2 years. Would have been a nice guy to have as rotation depth or a good bullpen arm. Interested to see what money he got.

Also to expound on the ridiculous of not signing Correa - they'd have to give him an opt out and he'd be gone post 2025 anyways ala what Machado is going to do next year.

That's a playoff team. Not having to give up an asset and just signing a guy like Correa like a real owner would opens up the door to so many possibilities. But it will just never happen, and as a result to improve the lineup they will have to subtract from the pitching. It doesnt have to be that way.

trevor williams was 13 for 2 years. That's a very reasonable deal for a swing starter. Not even sure who else is out there still as that depth starter but that at least sets a reasonable market for that type of guy if sherman does spend the money on some SP depth in the event they trade pablo/rogers.

Correa, Thomas, and Turner would be a great start though and they could easily pull that off.
