id still trade pablo for one of the best catching prospects in baseball who can hit and another bat. there's never been a question whether he can do what he's done this year, the question is whether he can stay healthy for an entire year and whether that shoulder will hold up long term. that;s still a question to me and if I can get a huge haul of bats, given our SP depth, id deal him in a heartbeat if the offer is good enough.

If you're trying to compete this year, absolutely Pablo is untouchable, but if we're playing for 2023, I think you gotta field offers.

Sandy is predictably way better than Todd said, and probably the surest thing in baseball as a SP right now. But after Sandy and Pablo, there are no sure things.
I would definitely count on Eury just because he basically seems like the prospect version of Sandy in terms of size and probably being able to handle the workload, but we’re talking about a 19/20-year-old next year.
Even if you want to say Sandy & Eury are sure things, there’s nothing else you can surely count on for next year in the starting 5.
Theres potential yeah, but the Marlins actually need to start deciding (imo) which of these arms fit better into high leverage relief roles as opposed to starting. Imo, a high leverage reliever that can go 2-3 innings is more valuable than maybe giving 5 every 5 days.
Rogers is having trouble going deep into games, Cabrera has 2 pitches, Luzardo is no sure thing especially with the injuries, etc.
Not sure we should be counting on Eder next year either. He’s had his own injuries, seems unfair to rely on these kids like that if we’re serious about competing next year. I would put Meyer above Eder actually. And even though I think Meyer can be the real deal, there are question marks about him as a starter too. Our SP depth is a bit overblown.
If they trade Pablo for a position player, they would need to sign at least 1 veteran SP to replace him. Probably 2 if they’re serious about competing (all indications from this ownership is that they’re not to be fair).

I think you're underselling Cabrera. He had 3 definite pitches in the last game, he threw the curveball a lot and was effective. Is there room for improvement with it? Absolutely, but his fastball change combination is devastating.
Meyer was the most dominant pitcher in the minor leagues until the injury. There is still some reliever risk with him, but he'll get his shot in the rotation very soon.
Luzardo and Rogers have red flags, but they're going to be in MLB rotations for a long time. We've seen ace potential from both, both are 24 years old. If they're your 4 and 5 right now, your staff is in good shape, but there's potential for so much more. I think you're underselling them as well.

Unless the Marlins make a real run, I think they should be looking at deals for Pablo. For a team like the Marlins, you always have to make sure to sell high, and his value may never be higher. Going into 2023, you're still going to have Sandy, Rogers, Luzardo, Cabrera, and Meyer. That's a solid-at-worst rotation if Rogers even ends up somewhere in between what he's been this year and last year. If you get Sixto back anything close to what he was when he jumped on the scene, that's a really good rotation. And then there's FA, and plenty of intriguing prospects to round things out if necessary.
If you can't get a huge return for Pablo, ok, keep him. But you very much should be able to assuming his play doesn't drop off between now and the trade deadline.

Playing Houston is a grim reminder of what the Marlins may well have received for Realmuto. Rumor had it that Kyle Tucker and Framber Valdez were available as a trade package for JT. Would have been nice and perhaps even better than the Ozuna trade.

Fangraphs moved Eury to #11 overall. Watson way down to 99. Sixto drop out due to injury.
So the answer in hindsight was, they should have probably traded Watson, Meyer, and Bleday/Burdick for Reynolds and bednar, and their belief Eury is Fernandez/Beckett part 3 may be correct.
