    • FWIW, from Rosenthal, here's how Marte's deal was structured:

      Starling Marte official with Mets:
$5M signing bonus ($2.5M each payable on 1/31/22 and 1/31/23).

      $14.5M in 2022,
      $19.5M in 2023, 24, and ‘25.

Oh god, fuck them. Not even a little. Do they not get Rogers, Jazz, and gang get into arbitration 24/25 so this was the "1" opportunity to pay for Sandy now to afford them later.

Avisail and Sandy cost them $30m in 2025.

          • Still, it's an "A" deal because 6th year option is highly valuable. They could have really driven up style points with loading up the next 2 years with an extra $10m and made those last two years $12 each, etc.

            • Apparently we’re getting Joey Wendle for a prospect. Not sure where he plays. Maybe they like the Jazz in CF idea from earlier.

                • Misner to Tampa Bay for Wendle.

I don't know, again I feel like the goal is to build a mediocre team.

                  • Also, the one hole we haven't filled is CF, yet we've dealt both Misner and Scott. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

                    • Bye bye Berti. Personally I'd rather have minimum wage Eddie Alvarez in this role. Wendle does have a VERY attractive wife who will grace Loan Depot.

Actually, Wendle would be a nice upgrade over Rojas at ss. At the very least he could take the big share of a platoon with Rojas.

Of note: A Garcia, J Stallings and J Wendle had higher WAR than any other Marlin position players last year.

This is a great move. He has 8 WAR in approx 1500 PA the last 4 seasons. He plays like a 3+ WAR player when he is out there. He’s very high floor which is perfect for your super utility guy. This is a great acquisition for just Misner. Absolutely great. It also eliminates Berti off the team as a necessary SS. This is likely a 2 win improvement, he’s controlled next year, and if the Marlins suck he is a perfect bench player for a contender so they won’t even lose a prospect practically. They’ll just trade and replace.

Not sure what they are going to do, but they have their major trade assets still. Chris Taylor and trading for a CF is a very very deep offense.

Doesn’t that tell us they are going to address it so they are not needed

                            My (still) wish list:

-big trade for a notable CF (or if they feel Taylor is that, ok)

-a vet innings eater SP - this type of guy always seems to be needed and they didn't bother last year and we saw how that went.

-a BIG signing (Correa? Bryant?).....pipedream, but hey, it's a wish list

                            -closer?

                              Right now, I want:

-a backup catcher who rakes (will settle for Alfaro, would be floored if they got campusano or a blue jays guy)

-trade one of Cooper or Aguilar for anything

-sign Chris taylor to play bulk CF. Or if convinced jazz can play CF, any of Bryant, Correa, story, etc. Go big!

-announce jazz, Anderson, and/or garcia will play some CF

-trade one of Pablo/Sixto/Cabrera/Meyer/eury for a longterm young CF. Dump Bass in this deal. If it’s Pablo, sign an innings eater 3/4 type for a season

-lefty reliever, young or old. I’m fine with Floro, bender Elisier/Sixto, pop, and head as the righties, and okert as a third lefty

                              • I like that they’re taking a methodical approach so far. They still need to hit on a big move, but they’re incrementally upgrading the roster in a way to try and contend now (assuming that big move does come).
