Marlins have offered Watson $4.5 million, way overslot, according to Mish.

Nice - offering as much as they can before they’d start losing draft picks next year. You could quibble and wish they squeezed other picks a little more, but 800k over slot is legit.

i think this gets done. from watson's perspective you can quibble over money but the alternative is going to college for 3 years, getting no money in that time, and hoping he gets drafted even higher in a few years.

Yes I am usually Mr Cynical, but there is no question the Marlins won the draft this year. Good for us !!!

It’s too early to say on this year, but like you said it looks good, we’ll see. As far as the 2020 draft goes. We had 6 picks 1 was traded for Dylan Floro, 1 pick was a high school pitcher who has had an ok year coming off TJ Surgery. Then 4 College pitchers who have already made it to AA which is basically unheard of including 2 (Meyer and Eder) who have arguably been the best 2 pitchers in the league.

It’s early returns still but very few would argue that the Marlins didn’t have the best 2020 draft as of today.

They did good I will agree, but the best ? Looking at the long-term construction of the team to not at least collect one position player/bat, especially when you are in desperate need of developing a catcher as well as other fielding positions, just seems a little bit short-sighted to me

How many other teams have two players from the 2020 draft in the top 100 prospects lists? I don’t know the answer to that, but I’d guess not many. And that’s not even counting the success their other arms have had this year from that class. Is it a slam dunk that it was the best class? Probably not. But I think there’s certainly an argument to be made.

at this point I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better draft given how few rounds. Every pick seems to have been good thus far. Meyer is meyer, Eder has been dominant, Fulton is looking like he might be a top 100 guy next year, the 5th rounder they got floro for, and then Mccambley and Nicolas have been really good as well. You cant ask for much more at this point.

Yeah now that Fulton is showing his potential the 2020 draft looks absolutely incredible.
