  • gonna be super interesting to see what they do between jazz and isan. I still think they go isan and allow jazz a couple months of more minor league development and service time delay.

    • sandy also looks like he's taken another significant step. he's been absolutely lights out in spring and his k numbers are pretty eye popping.

I don't know how you can hand the job to a guy that has 2 hits all spring.

i dont take 28 spring at bats as everything compared to overall plate discipline with 6 walks and what the front office is saying about him. they seem to be impressed by him this spring as did a baseball america article about 25 potential breakout players last week from a scout saying the following:

          Isan Diaz, 2B, Marlins

Diaz initially opted out of last season following the Marlins’ Covid-19 outbreak, but he returned in September and appeared in seven games total during the season. One of four players the Marlins acquired from the Brewers in the Christian Yelich trade, Diaz has hit .174/.251/.294 in 56 career games.

Scout’s Take: “I think he’s figuring it out. He just needs a chance to get acclimated at the major league level. Before he could be very inconsistent in terms of whether he stayed within himself in (an) at-bat or not. And that happens to young players, especially smaller guys. They’re going to get challenged and jammed and sometimes they feel like they have to pop a home run to kind of get the pitchers to back off and respect them. He’s done some things now where he’s showing he’s ready to just have good quality at-bats over and over. Just hit the ball where it’s pitched and not try and do too much.”
My big thing is getting the extra year of service time back with jazz and giving both he and isan consistent AB's and giving isan an extended chance to show something at the major league level given that he has nothing left to prove at AAA. He played just 49 games and under 200 ab 's two years ago in his first taste of big league action and barely played last year before opting out. If the DH was still in the NL id keep them both up and get them both in the lineup almost every other day, but without it id rather see Isan sink or swim in his first consistent playing time in almost 2 years and see what you have.

Sources indicate the Marlins new multi-year TV deal is more than doubles their previous one annually from a financial perspective. Substantially more than double. In addition the deal is more than 5 years in length.

            • look forward to seeing the creative way in which maddawg spins the new tv deal as a negative

              • The most recent TV deal was KC. According to Fangraphs' TV deal list, that one was $44 million annually (for 6 years). KC is the 34th biggest TV market. Miami-Ft. Lauderdale is 18th (not including Palm Beach County which is 39th). Even taking into account a pandemic economy, you have to think the Marlins deal is something like 6 years in the $50-$55 million range, which would be substantially more than double without being triple.

                • Good news and Bad News

Good News the deal is exactly what they thought it would be like said 50-60 million and even better news they got an out clause or something to that effect that says IF TB moves out of FL that can get a new deal worth even more!! Doubtful happens on this deal but we pretty much were told that if TB goes to Charlotte/LV/Canada that the next deal would be another increase

Bad news Oscar Colas agreed to sign for 2.7 mil in 2022 with the Cuba White Sox!!! We were a finalist and looks like we got cash in 2022 to spend IF anyone else comes on the market!!

                  • eloy jiminez down with a serious injury for the white sox. Does a cooper for Zack collins base of a deal make sense? Cooper could fill in really well there, we get a UM catcher former top prospect who is blocked right now behind grandal. We might have to add a piece but that could make a lot of sense, especially considering they are trying to contend this year and might be willing to give up a backup with promise in the hopes of not getting off to a bad start without eloy.

I'm really in your head ROFLMAO....of course you'll say no, but it's interesting you had to take it personal 1st....remember I've been quiet but people will see you're the one that aggitates LOL.

As for the deal....let's see if they spend the money on the team or do they divide it and buy another yacht with it...I guess we'll see.

you've been quiet because you're a relentlessly negative curmudgeon and there isn't much to be negative about this team during this spring but not surprising you find a way to spin it as a potential negative. you could not be a more insignificant part of my thoughts. if this message board is any kind of part of your life where anyone here makes a significant impact on your thoughts other than when posting on here i would recommend getting out more.

                            • garrett cooper with another hr. he needs to be playing every day. i understand he has more versatility and can play more positions than aguilar so it might make sense to have him as the swing guy but he is our best hitter at this point and there is 0 excuse not to be playing everyday.

Sixto also looked good again tonight, throwing over 100. he should join the team after a few turns through the rotation.

Brinson also having a very solid spring. he should be the 4th OF. the better not give it to sierra cause he's out of options. I don't think there is any chance he gets claimed if they DFA him.

Jazz appears to be the starting 2b frontrunner too according to mish. So we're gonna have a few of Brinson, Cooper, Aguilar, Diaz, Berti, Jazz with no playing time. I cant think of another NL team who is being so badly hurt by not having the DH this year. We would have benefitted immensely from that extra spot in the lineup to get 4 ab's each night.
