My money is on them NOT spending the money in the off season.

Hanley Ramirez and Choate Traded to Dodgers for Eovaldi and Minor Leaguer

It's possible that the Marlins could've gotten better players from another team, but the Dodgers were the only ones willing to pay Hanley's entire salary.
The only nice thing I have to say about this trade is that I've seen Eovaldi pitch and felt that his stuff should translate to better #'s. He throws very hard.
All in all, this is crappy value. I don't understand why we had to include Choate for, well, nothing and I don't understand why we had to make this trade on July 25th. Once again, Beinfest and company have to make the quickest deal possible. Why not wait six more days to see if a better deal comes along at least? Things change in a week.
Whatever, I guess.
Eovaldi is good enough to be in the rotation at least. Spend the money on something better, hopefully.

Lost in all the other madness of one of baseball's craziest overnights ever, did you notice that the low-budget, low-expectations A's moved percentage points ahead of the Angels and into second place in the American League West?
And that they still had a bad night?
The problem was that other Los Angeles team, the Dodgers, and their stunning late-night deal for Hanley Ramirez.
The A's, as it turns out, were also in heavy on Hanley. And, according to sources, the Marlins offered Oakland a sweet deal within the last few days, one in which the A's would get Ramirez for a couple of minor-league players -- and the Marlins would pay about half the remaining money on Ramirez's contract.
The A's held off making the deal, because of concerns about a hand injury that has kept him out of the lineup since Friday. In the meantime, the Dodgers came in and agreed to take Ramirez's entire contract -- all $40 million of it.
That's great for the suddenly fire-selling Marlins. It's awful for the suddenly competitive A's.

Not surprised to wake up to a Hanley trade but thought they were more willing to shell out money in return for some better prospects. The one trade that's going to bother me is a JJ trade, though it seems inevitable now. Miami had leverage with Texas before this trade so can we get more than Olt? They have a good system but they're not going to trade Profar.
I'm also afraid Loria is going to overpay for Josh Hamilton this winter.

I think with the Hamels extension the Marlins are going to get a shit ton for Nolasco and/or JJ. Olt, Perez, and maybe something else.Originally posted by Madman81Most of the people in the world being dumb is not a requirement for you to be among their ranks.

Lol at Billy Beane for having that firesale before the year began. Oh wait, nevermind. It worked. He's a genius.
I love when people overreact and use the term firesale when the current core of players did nothing but suck as a team in their time here.
The team sucks. Agree with the moves or not, were the Marlins obligated to keep these players or something? Because sucking always brings the fans out, right?
Ironic that the majority of the fanbase is going to complain about this when the majority of the fanbase has wanted Hanley gone for years, anyway. Because "he's a clubhouse cancer," "is lazy," "has no position."
If there's one thing I like, it's that the front office doesn't give a shit about what the fans think. That's basically the only thing I like about the front office, unfortunately.

So where's the responsibility here?
Did the Marlins fail their fans by putting together a losing and unlikeable team?
Or did a lukewarm fan base that is not exactly flooding the turnstiles at Marlins Park force the issue by their apathy and cause Loria to bail early?
Either way, it's another ugly chapter in Marlins history.
Either way, it's another embarrassing situation for Major League Baseball, which with each passing year looks like it made a bigger and bigger mistake by expanding into Florida in the first place.
Oh lawd.
