Yeah, I don't think anyone is saying to trade him for the sake of trading him.
I think it's possible that we can get a nice deal for him now.

And from the Marlins perspective, we count on him to stay healthy every year and he never does. At this point in his career, it's safe to say he's injury prone.

If we could get a great package, that'd already have happened. The Marlins under Beinfest (and it's as admirable as it is maddening) don't negotiate, don't shop offers, they just do their thing, and often fairly quickly.

Funny that you come to that conclusion this year when he's yet to miss a start.

My line of thinking is about:

Offer him an extensions (4/60ish or something) and see if he accepts. If he does, awesome.

If he doesn't, he's less valuable to the franchise because he walks in less than 1.5 years.

See what's out there for him. If you get an ace ransom, seriously think about it. One of the things to remember is that teams will pay more for him now because they'd also have him for another year rather than if he was about to be an FA and they get no compensation if he walks.

If there isn't an offer like that, do not trade him just to trade him. This is still a good talented team that has performed well under their skills. Play again for 2013, if the team falls apart offer extension again and if declined trade him (And by then his results should be at an ace level again)

#Angels, looking for a starter, had a scout watching #Marlins RHP Josh Johnson last night. Believed to be special assignment. @MLBONFOX

I'd be OK with trading Hanley. Send him to Boston for Bradley plus. JJ, on the other hand, I still don't want to get rid of. As Z said, if Texas offers Olt for JJ then you have to really consider it. A package of Olt, Martin Perez or Leonys Martin would be very tempting.

We asked for Olt and were told NO,however this was before Colby Lewis went down for the season. It looks like tho that Texas is waiting to see what Philly is gonna do before making a final offer.

If Philly makes Hamels or Lee available,Texas is ready to offer ALOT for either of them and JJ will be out.

Marlins told teams they would trade Sanchez OR Johnson. Only blowaway offer will get JJ, for now, anyway

Rangers are the only team I can really see making a big offer for JJ that would be satisfactory.

Marlins have a scout today at Ballpark in Arlington. Martin Pérez will be pitching for the Rangers (vía @efrainruizp)

Olt, Perez and a third piece. Maybe we should do that?
