It's not completely irrelevant either. There are a number of valid reasons why you might balk at making a trade based on something you see in the player's most recent performance.

Fans who use the advanced metrics undervalue intangibles almost as much as old school baseball guys overvalue them. It's one of the reasons I tend to stay away from questioning managers on every decision when it comes to bullpen and bench usage. They know their players better from a mental standpoint.

Stop having unrealistic expectations. Last year Reyes had a career year at the best financial timing. He's having a normal Reyes year. Stats are still a little lower then average but its not a disappointment. And OPS by month: .635 / .717 / .822 / .842. Are you going to continue to bitch about a guy who has put up better stats every month thus far?
