Then I told him I knew Mata, and he didn't like me anymore.
That's outstanding. Mata basically pulled him over and said you gotta meet this guy and then made me take a picture with him.

But then he stood and talked to me for 10 minutes when he didn't have to. Good dude.

    • If they trade Johnson, they better have some deadweight Nolasco, Bell or even Buck on that. Get it off 2013.

      • Johnson is 28 and still able to be an ace and one of the best pitchers in baseball. I'd be grade A pissed if we trade him.

        Hanley, not as much.

I lied a little. I told him I knew Mata and he said "Dude's got a lot of friends!" and then I fawned over him etc. etc. and he talked to me for 5 minutes or so while the rest of the team got on the bus. Didn't get to see Mata though.

          • I just saw a commercial with Infante in it

How the team handles this from a front office perspective will be very intriguing if and when they make another deal. We know that this fanbase fears that any one trade is the sign of a fire sale (for good reason, let's be honest). We know that this is a year that has gone way below expectations. We also know that this was the year that the Marlins were supposed to turn a new leaf and become a different franchise.

So, I pose the question: Can the Marlins afford to make another major trade? Not just baseball-wise, but from the perspective of the franchise's overall relationship with the community. Would people be in favor or against moving anyone else? Does it change based on which of the names is dealt?

            • It will depend on who is traded. There will be a negative backlash to trading JJ. Hanley not so much. This wouldn't have been the case two years ago, but that's how far his stock has fallen down here. Of the players being thrown around, Ricky is a guy people will be indifferent about.

Like I said before what the fans think should not be considered by baseball operations. Let sales and marketing deal with it.

              • At this point, you're better off building a winner in the near future than not pissing off some fans right now at the expense of being mediocre for the foreseeable future.

Personally, I'd rather not have Beinfest be the one who trades some of our more beloved players and builds up a new core, considering the teams he has assembled thus far haven't done much.

                • I'm with you, Chewie. I'm indifferent towards the fire sale, but I'm very reticent to trust our current staff with getting value for our players.

                          • I can't articulate how happy I am they traded Anibal. Best Marlins news since the beginning of June.

I can't tell for sure if those girls are Korean, which is kinda bad considering how long I've lived in Korea. I can conclude they are not Japanese.
