But at the same time, maybe the bats don't get better and this is the new norm for Hanley, Reyes isn't built for the home park, Morrison is the new Hermida, Buck continues to have a .208 BABIP, and the pen continues to be a major issue, thus making any short term move irrelevant to longterm asset preservation.
Main point, I don't think this is a knock on the FO until they trade a major asset (Fernandez, Yelich, lesser extent James, Conley or guys on the 25 man) to win now without a longterm implication. Trade all these secondary farm guys for upgrades now, doesn't change anything except maybe the cards fall your way second half.

That's my main worry. If they get desperate enough to consider trading Yelich/Fernandez as part of a win now trade.

I could see Conley as a centerpiece for Bourjos/Span. Which I am fine with as that is both a short and long term move, but can't see Yelich/Fernandez being included in anything as they don't only project to be awesome, they need them badly even if they just turn out to be ok.

Also, didn't they consider Stanton in a trade for Manny?

I'm not really getting why people are upset over this deal. We traded two essential nobodies who will never have a role on this team for a guy who is going to improve the team this season, and Houston is eating his salary. What's the big deal? It's not like Dominguez is some great prospect anymore.

Also, for all the talk that this team "sucks" and has no shot at contending, they are still in the wild card race, and with the added wild card this year, why not make a move that could put the team in a better position to make the playoffs in a year where doing so would really, REALLY behoove this franchise more than ever before? There is plenty of baseball left to play.

That the guys going out are considered by some to be "prospects" says more about our system (and, by extension, our FO) than anything else. I don't care about Carlos Lee, he doesn't push us over the hump, he's not holding down anyone's development. I don't care about Dominguez or Rasmussen. I really don't care about this trade. I think it's silly that we made it, and I think it's even sillier you care this much. We're better for it, we're still a crappy team.
