I never said that he was wholly incapable of getting proper value back. I said that his failure to do so in that one important instance is cause to remove from his position. To draw a "real world" analogy, if anybody here made such a monumental fuckup in his job (essentially squandering $153m of value), it would be pretty unreasonable to think that he would continue to work there.

Meh. I get that you were being jestful earlier, but when I originally responded, it was because you were saying they are incapable of getting proper value in trades. So, what I think is silly is judging the FO's ability to get proper return on trades based on that one trade.

Yeah. I was being jokey earlier. And, like I said, I don't actually believe that we shouldn't try to trade Anibal just because I'm unhappy about who is running the front office. I am just ready for a change.

This team is just bad. I couldn't even make it through half of the condensed game.

I don't feel like reading all 4 pages, but absolutely you need to trade Anibal at this point. It's never seemed like he "enjoys" it here - quite the opposite at some times (remember the grievance with the FO as well), and I don't see him taking a discount to be here. At the deadline if we don't have some miraculous turnaround we can definitely get a ton for him. It's not even a matter of potentially losing him at this point. We've had this rotation for 7 years and we've got nothing brewing. Like Swift said JJ is still a guy who you try to build around. I'm not sure we resign Zambrano next year though I'm sure we try. I'm sure we try on Greinke or Hamels next year as well and moving Anibal potentially allows us to do that.

The one thing I disagree with is the idea that Ricky is overpaid. There is still a lot of value in what he does and while his contract is no "steal" it's roughly what you'd pay on the open market for a guy like him. Last year he was worth $15.8 million and in 2010 he was worth $10.1.

He's had 80something OPS+ since 2010, there's no way you'll ever convince me that's worth 8 figures. Durability? Great, but you can find 200 bad innings all over the place. Livan got a non-guaranteed contract, twice, this offseason. You know he'll take the bump 30 times.

Just curious, what does that algorithm say John Buck is worth?

8.6 last year. For all his faults he was still a 2 WAR catcher last year.

I used to say this because his results looked like they would turn around based on shitty luck.

However, after a certain amount of time, it's just who he is. He's also become a contact pitcher now.

We're paying a lot of money to a pitcher who sucks. I'd trade him for nothing if we can get nothing in return. Just to get rid of his salary.

Going by FIP. Going by ERA, he was worth 6.5m in 2010 and 2.5m last year.

Hard to call it an anomaly after 1000 IP.
