He's been OK for the past two seasons. I'm comfortable giving him a 3-4 year deal.

So what you're saying is you're perfectly OK locking in, basically, the entirety of the core that won, on average, 78 games from 2006-2011 and is presently on pace to win 77.

I'm talking about signing ONE player.

From those teams, we have JJ, Nolasco, and Ramirez locked up that started out with us, I believe. I would add Sanchez to that list. Having good players isn't a bad thing. It's the bad players that suck.

He has also shown some signs of weakness at the ends of seasons, not to mention what he is currently doing.

I'm the biggest Anibal fan on the board. I've been saying he's a borderline No. 1 pitcher for like a year. But he's certainly not without warts. If this season continues to go south, it is not the worst idea to make a move. He is the best chance this organization has for an injection of young talent.

I understand his health issues. I would just rather risk keeping him than trading him away in hopes that a few prospects will pan out.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You realize we traded a pretty phenomenal pitcher named Josh Beckett for a few prospects hoping they'd pan out. One was Anibal.

Traded Miguel Cabrera for two top ten prospects and 4 other players. They all suck.

Sanchez isn't a Miguel Cabrera but he's still a pitcher I would rather keep if I can.

You can really minimize a prospects risk based on a combination of factors that are easily explored. Now whether or not you have confidence in the front office to do that is a different story, but it's not like we're taking guys that are a total crapshoot ala the draft.

It was really really shitty luck that they all failed, though.

I sort of have confidence in them. I don't think they're totally inept like others.

However, prospects still bust. It's still a risk.

Yea, but they still sucked. There are other examples. Maybe none as bad as that but examples are out there.

I should rephrase that statement, though. Badenhop isn't bad. So 5 sucked.

I don't really get what Flum was doing, speaking of that. They've totally struck out on, what, two trades? Castillo and Cabrera?

Even if we get the Miguel Cabrera return (and, this is the closest I'll ever come to defending that trade so you have to know just how uninformed your position is) and get a guy to be a 2 year starter in our OF (keeping a seat warm for, hopefully, Yelich) and a guy to hang out in the back end of our rotation, it's almost certainly a net gain. There's that much wrong with this team.

So getting two guys who suck for Anibal Sanchez is a net positive? How?

Did you forget that both players you are talking about trading were prospects when they were traded for with established players. And Ricky was in the MLB Roster immediately and Sanchez made 15 starts before making his MLB debut after the trades.
