Damn. Roster now at 39 (not including Oviedo)

Marlins sent LHP Sean West outright to Triple-A New Orleans.
West is off the 40-man roster after clearing waivers, which speaks volumes about how much his stock as dropped since being selected as a supplemental first-round pick in 2005. The 25-year-old southpaw posted an ugly 5.59 ERA and 56/46 K/BB ratio over 87 innings at the Triple-A level last year and underwent offseason elbow surgery.
    LHP Chad James-Jupiter Hammerheads-

    5-15 3.80 ERA (27 starts) 149.1IP 173H 63ER 51BB 124K

3 players that are considered locks to be on the opening day roster came from the 2005 draft. I think that's pretty good.

no one is arguing that though

Logan and Gaby certainly saved the draft

I don't think that's very good with having 4 extra first rounders.

I'd say they make it "ok." Two regulars and a bench guy is splendid in a normal draft, but not when you have 4 extra first rounders. They have to hit on their first rounders more than 20% of the time.

And that 20% should be better than Volstad

From 1997-2005 the Yankees selected the following in the first round

                        Ryan Bradley, RHP (5 games)
                        Tyrell Godwin, OF (3 AB)
Mark Prior, RHP (did not sign with them)
Andy Brown, OF (never made majors)
Dave Wailling, RHP (never made majors)
Dave Parrish, C (never made majors)
Jon Skaggs, RHP (never made majors)
                        Bronson Sardinha, SS (9 AB)
                        John-Ford Griffin, OF (23 AB)
Eric Duncan, 3B (never made majors)
                        Jeff Marquez, RHP (4 games)
Jon Poterson, C (never made majors)
                        Phil Hughes, RHP (heyyyyyyyyyyyy)
CJ Henry, SS (never made majors)

                        so, it could be worse

One thing to consider is that they didn't really spend a proportional amount of extra money in that draft, considering they had five first-rounders. So a good portion of the first rounders were reaches out of monetary necessity.

That Yankees list is really bad, but Beinfest first 10 first rounders leaves little to be desired at the same time.

Hermida (Was useful 08/09 then yea....)
                            Allison
                            Tank
                            Volstad (Acceptable # 5)
                            Marceaux
                            Tucker
                            West
                            Thompson
                            Sinkbiel
Coghlan (Should be a premium role player at minimum)

So he developed two ordinary guys and got limited contributions from Hermida. That's really bad, even if you have to give him major credit on Stanton, Johnson, Morrison, Gaby, and a few other role players who really saved his ass during that time, if he had picked up say Garza or Ellsbury or someone in the 05 draft and Tucker met his projection as a big time setup man, that would look astronomically better.

I'm optimistic about Dominguez, James, Yelich, Fernandez, and yes, even Skipworth (why can't he be a late bloomer and just slug some bombs batting .235 like Saltlamacchia?), as for the next upcoming batch though. But I just can't see how 05 isn't a disappointment even with 4-5 legit MLB guys drafted.

Beinfest has also been picking earlier in the first round than the Yankees. In that time frame they probably did not pick below 20th and were consistently above 25.
