I talked about it some last year but when Hanley is struggling, he often fails to get his foot down early enough. You can't start your swing until the foot comes down.

I think his high leg kick is the root of the problem, to be honest so I did a little bit of research.

Here's a video and still of Hanley swinging and missing earlier this year. Make note of how high and long his stride is

and now here is him in 09:

I'll post a little more about it when I get home

He's only walked once so far in May (50 ABs).

The POTM committee is reviewing your post for possible nomination.

For sure, and getting that foot down early will help him get it through the zone faster.

When you cycle through these videos, almost every time he drives the ball hard, he's getting his foot down early by either planting sooner, or shortening his stride. There are a few exceptions, but there always is.

              Here, here, here, etc

Every time I think he's back, he starts sucking again. If this were the first time this were happening to him, I wouldn't be worried, but Hanley has been going through this for well over a year now.

Someone (Eduardo) needs to bring Hanley to his video archive at MLB.com.

Look at how early he's getting his foot down (and subsequently, how fast he's able to come through the zone) and compare it to what he does tonight.

Definitely looked more like good Hanley last night. Leg kick was still a bit big but seemed to get it down faster.

I liked Hanley much better when he was one of the league's best hitters

                              Also, Tommy Hutton hates Hanley.

I'm starting to think the guy may need a change of scenery. He looks so disinterested at times. Maybe a postseason appearance would intstill some hunger in him.
