Guy looked REAL strong at 3B tonight.

And his HR was this kind of sawed off/inside out swing that he still muscled over the fence.

His spirits looked high, his ass looked GREAT (according to Party who was sitting right next to me) and he hit the 1st Marlins HR in the new park.

This is the kind of swing we need back from Hanley.

Vintage Hanley. I'm a sucker for the opposite field HR.

Hanley wins it for Marlins in 11th
Hanley Ramirez singles to bring home the winning run.

                      MIAMI (AP)
                      Fish finally flew.

The blue marlins on the Miami Marlins' animated home run sculpture went spinning Sunday when Omar Infante and Hanley Ramirez hit the team's first homers in its new ballpark, helping to beat the Houston Astros 5-4 in 11 innings.

''It's good for the fans,'' Ramirez said. ''I'm happy they got the chance to see that.''

Ramirez also delivered a bases-loaded, one-out single in the 11th — his fourth consecutive hit — for the victory.

With batters starting to grumble that the ballpark favors pitchers, Ramirez tied the game in the eighth against Wilton Lopez by hitting a two-run homer that cleared the 418-foot sign in center field.

John Buck singled to start the 11th against David Carpenter (0-1). Pinch-runner Brett Hayes advanced on a sacrifice, Jose Reyes was intentionally walked and both runners advanced on a wild pitch.

Emilio Bonifacio was then intentionally walked to load the bases, and Ramirez drove a 1-2 pitch over the head of right fielder Travis Buck for the victory.

''I was just trying to hit it hard somewhere,'' Ramirez said.

Decided to take a look at HitTrackerOnline.com's park overlay feature to see how Hanley's homers would have fared in the new park over his career.

                        2011

                        2010

                        2009

                        2008

                        2007

                        2006

It's not scientific at all, given the atmospheric factors that we have discussed in great detail, however it is interesting to look at. Looks like he would have lost roughly 13 home runs in his career just because of the distance of the walls.
