  • The next paragraph with Samson's quote was hilarious.

“No offers have been made that we can comment on or not comment on,” Samson said. “There is no comment. I want to make sure you guys have it. We are not commenting whether we made an offer or did not make an offer. We can comment that [Pujols] was here [Friday], and I know Jeffrey did. Under the rules of baseball, we literally cannot comment.”

      • Honestly, Samson's approach is the right way to do it.

But, I like that Loria confirmed it for us. :D
        --------------------
Here’s an edited transcript of what he said after tonight’s rebranding ceremony.

(It’s no secret that you’ve had a number of free agents in town — Buehrle, Reyes, Pujols today. Can you explain what your plan is to having all of these guys in here?)

“We’re looking at everyone. We want to make this teajm as special as we can and we would be foolish not to entertain the poissiblities of some of these players. It’s just one of those things that means you’re going forward. We’ve had our hands tied for a long time. With this new stadium we want to step into a new light.’

(How optimistic are you that you’re going to be able to seal a deal with one or more of these guys?)

“We can’t really tell. They’re all very highly sought after and we’re being very aggressive.’’

(How did the meeting go with Pujols today?)

“He’s terrific. I can only tell you he loved the stadium. He liked being here. He loves the flavor of Miami as I do and everybody else here does. And we are hopeful that some of these deals will happen.’’

(Did you make him an offer?)

“We’ve made offers but I’m not going to discuss them.’’

(It’s almost shocking to see the Marlins, who have long been considered penny-pinchers to come in and make a splash like this.)

“We’ve never been penny pinchers. We just haven’t had the ability to do it in the old stadium. And now we’re looking forward to a new era. It’s a new page.’’

(By going after Albert, though, this is exceeding the expectations even of two weeks ago.)

“There are absolutely no limits to try and see what can be done.’’

(Did Albert say what he liked about the new ballpark?)

“He loved the space, he loved the size of it. He couldn’t believe that there were just 37,000 seats in there.’’

(In the end, do you think it’s going to come down to money for these guys or will Ozzie and the new ballpark make the difference?)

“Ozzie is a wonderful manager that we’ve got and he’s a big help. It means a lot. Ozzie certainly will attract players.’’

        • one person characterized offers to pujols, reyes, buehrle & madson as "preliminary'' types. so no threat of 4 acceptances
revelation of offers to 4 stars was well-timed for miami #marlins, as their coming out event was yesterday
Marlins won't reveal preference order. but 1 person who's talked to them says he believes reyes is choice #1

I wasn't even aware we offered Madson a contract.

David Samson when asked on 790 radio if it was likely the #Marlins won't actual sign players until later in the off-season "U never know."
              ...

Also talking about how they are showing free agents around the ball park.

Interesting that we've heard both 'substantial' and 'preliminary' to describe the offers to Pujols and Reyes
God would be expecting a first pitch breaking ball in the dirt because humans love to disappoint him.

Told that the Marlins can sign Pujols and Reyes. Have at least one trade offer out, plus Buehrle and one more pitcher.
                    :D.

                      • I'm really curious as to what the potential trade is.

Also guessing Madson is the "other pitcher."

                        • Madison as the "other pitcher" was my thought as well with what we've heard. Wonder what the trade offer is.

Also, there is a big difference between "can sign" and "will sign". Still think you guys need to chill until we actually get them close to be signed.

                          • What's the difference? I think it's pretty big info to hear that they could take both players not just one or the other.

                            • The trade is probably Volstad. Just a guess.

I don't think anyone here thinks it's a done deal, or even likely that we'll get both of them. I don't understand what you're doing here.

The fact that they're willing to do so is the big news.
