Nunez is arbitration-eligible one more time before qualifying for spring training.
    The actual sentence.

Keep him and let him become a Type A Free Agent.

Since we're apparently gonna be spending big next year in hopes of contending, I hope he's not here next year.

We're not playing for 2013 so I could care less about his Type A status.

Leo suspended for being Dominican and getting caught.

The Rays play with what they have and focus on the future. I'd love the Rays GM here. I don't understand how we are putting all our eggs in one basket in 2012. That's stupid.

I don't understand how trying to get a better closer (since we're spending more money) next year, and not keeping Leo Nunez = putting all our eggs in one basket for 2012.

                Let me re-word it.

I don't see what the problem is at having Leo as our closer next year. I don't see us as having a playoff caliber team next year without some improvements/injuries that need to be correct.

The Rays use the players they have to help win now and for the future. Look at all the firsts they got and how they stock their farm system. Yes, we'd have to improve scouting but it's still nice to have.

Cause he's not terrible. Money should be used in a lot more areas than closer. Keep him there and let him walk after 2012.

Why sign a high money closer when we got a decent one here.

The Rays accumulate picks and build through the farm. Getting two firsts for Leo in a year would help?

The Marlins are already being rumored for nearly every big name on the market this offseason.

They are going to try to win next year, especially considering how putrid this year has been.

Leo, in his three years here, has barely been decent; that's about the best thing that can be said about him in comparison to other closers, and it's certainly being nice.

It's a position that can be upgraded. Either in free agency or from within (there are better relievers on the current roster).

You don't avoid potentially getting better because you want two picks at the end of next year, who may or may not be any good in the future.

The Rays have done a good job, yes, but it also took a lot of years of being terrible to start that rebuild of the farm system, to begin with.

I don't see why we have to be the Rays. Our payroll is projected to be ~80+ million next year and we already have a decent core in place. The team can start winning next year with the correct signings being made.

The Rays are forced to handle their team the way they handle it due to their financial situation. It's two very different situations heading into this offseason.

Also, the draft isn't the only way you can get better.

You can trade Leo Nunez for two decent prospects who might be just as good, if not better, than the two draft picks. It's not a big deal.

I guess it boils down to, if we are spending big money, I rather it be on something other than a closer.

Maybe we will be able to spend money on a closer and something other than a closer. Or maybe we will be able to get a closer other than Leo and spend money on something other than a closer.
