There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to add two guys who "had" something, are going to play in a cavernous ballpark and are, worst case, DFA risks and the organization is fine.
John Buck is overpaid. As bad as John Buck was this year, he still put up a ~2 WAR. What catcher are you signing after you trade him?
Also, why would the Yankees and Red Sox take our salaries and basically pay the entire salaries of their garbage players, as well?
In the Red Sox case, they don't even need a catcher.
And even if the Yankees/Red Sox are paying entire salaries, Burnett and Lackey still suck.

Lackey has too much left in his contract for Boston to pick up. If you add Buck's contract to that, it's absurd.
We can get a better return for Nolasco than AJ.
Buck doesn't have to hit .300/.350/.500 to be good, he's our catcher and he needs to call good games and make the best out of our pitching staff. Buck needs to work on throwing guys out though, 17% CS is very, very shitty.
